I would like to know if dieseline in a jerry can, can be stored for periods up to a year or so without deteriorating in any way. It often happens that one do not use your canned fuel soon after a trip and then the question arises whether the diesel in there is still of acceptable quality to take onto a next trip. Experiences and opinions on this topic will be welcomed.

Hi
I've wondered about that too.
From what I have read, and depending who wrote it, one can expect answers from 3 to 18 months...... Not sure either though.
I've kept and used diesel about 5 months. No problems, though it was only 25L Jerry can

I am not fuel specialist but diesel has not got the same vapour properties as petrol where petrol can lose some Octane quality over a period . I have grown up on a farm and our diesel were stored for months on end without any noticeable change. I will ask my neighbour here as he is a engineer at Sasol and maybe he can get more info. Will keep you posted.
Yes that will be a nice to know, please ask him about petrol as well please
Hi Guys,
I have posted an answer a while ago but here it goes:
According to my neighbour he says the diesel can be stored for any ammount of time considdering the container is properly sealed.
He explained that the addiditives in diesle is not the same as petrol and therefore densities differ and apparently it does not degrade like the additives in petrol.
But he suggested that a year should be enough and just to be safe use it within a year.
His comment was if you plan to store diesel that long you driving enough
