Advice on purchase
Hello daar,

Have been looking and thinking and decided it is time. I would like to purchase a Pajero in the next few weeks. Been doing a lot of reading here and 4x4community.
I currently drive Nissan HB DC 3.0 TD 4x4 for the last 5 years and been very happy. My eldest is getting very tall now and the double cab is already not great to sit in and shes going to be uncomfortable soon and shes only 11.

Anywayyyyyy sorry long story.....
Looking at Mitsubishi Pajero 3.2 LWB GLX 2005 for 197000km for R179900. Is this a lot for the kilometers? It looks good, will go see it at the end of the week. Don't necesarily want to spend so much money, is just it gets difficult to finance the older it gets. Prefer Gen2 shape btu this one is a pretty.

Is there anything that is coming up like a special something that needs replacing at 200000km?
Any advice what am I in for.
thanks
Riku

I am not an expert on used car values and this one might be a tiny little bit on the expensive side, but I doubt whether it would be possible to get a 2005 DiD LWB for as little as R150000, even with 2000000 km on the clock. Have a look at Autotrader and the other used car sites.

I'm no expert either! Just based it off my recent purchase and a purchase made by a friend on a 2004 shorty.

Gerrit is right, you should be watching carfind.co.za, autotrader, etc. for a good couple of months - then you get a good idea for what these guys are going.

I reckon if its been there for a while, its probably not in the best condition. Most of the ones I went to look for were sold within 5 days. I bought mine in less than 24h after the guy put it on carfind.

Thanks for the help.

Been watching cardifnd autotrader for a while now, they all seem about R10000-15000 less for those km's for a LWB.

Is there a major service or parts that need replacing when you get close to 200000km on the diesel 3.2 LWB?

Zeek,

The 4eClan will arrive shortly on this thread with the best advice.

What I do know is that the 4x4 actuating mechanism can be a bit of a problem on some older Pajeros. That is usually traced to either the switches or the vacuum. Normally not a bank breaker, but I recommend you take any prospective purchase for a proper test run. Take an experienced Pajero owner with, if possible.

My bud bought a 2003 DiD GLS LWB with just under 200 000km for R130k. That was about a year ago and he is still very happy with his car. Did mention to me recently that when he changes, it will be for a lower km Gen4 GLX.

I agree on all above except for the egr. Mine is on 250 000km mark, going in for service tomorrow, and I am still on the original egr system. There is also a case of some Gen3 Pajeros having the one side shaft move out a mm or so and letting rear diff oil leak, but this seem to be sorted on later models.

By the way, none of the above is bankbreakers on their own, but could lead to big costs if not attended to when diagnosed in some cases.
