Gents,
If you were to buy for R350k, which one: (keeping in mind that I will have to spend R5k to R6k for a cruise control on the GLX)
a) 2008 DiD GLS
Colour: Silver Metallic
Mileage 81 000 KM
b)2009 DiD GLX
Colour: White
Mileage 73 000 KM
I would go for the GLS. 8000km isn't much difference but the spec level makes a difference.
Unless you really really want a difflock!4ePikanini wrote:I would go for the GLS. 8000km isn't much difference but the spec level makes a difference.
2006 Pajero GLX 3.2 DiD LWB A/T, aux battery system, roof rack, tow bar, 9000 Lumen LED Light Bar, Speedo Cruise (Bestech AutoCruise)
Guys,
It is now less than half an hour before our quarter final game is to start against Aus, so I may be less than perfectly logic.
I have taken all the difflock vs T/C discussions to heart (and usually had a bit to say as well). I'm still not sure how I should vote. I personally do not do 4x4 challenges and stuff.... I just want to get to nice, quiet and out of the way places. The safety of the S/C and the fact that the T/C is always there to help when you least expect it is quite important to me. The Pajero is also so very capable that one can do plenty without D/L. I crossed the Namib desert in a 2000 DiD and didn't touch the D/L button once.
Lets see how this thing pans out. First I need to decide if I want to change and then what to. This process usually takes a me few months, so please don't hold your breaths.
I have just fitted four new boots on my SWB and the Haynes manual is paid for and in the post (seeing that the maint. plan expired mid Sept). I will happily hang on to this superbly willing little beast for another year or so.
Thanks
Roelf

Also remember, the 5 year 100000 km maintenance plan for the GLS

Rpelfleroux,
As ek my stuiwer in die armbeurs kan gooi.
Lekker kies, Cloyd

Yip,
The logic of the remainder of the maint contract to sort out any possible niggles does make all the sense.
So, who wants to buy a perfectly good SWB?

I would go for the GLS. My Pajero spends most of the time on the tar, with the occasional bundu bash. Never been that stuck that I could not help myself out. (Got close a couple of times, me thinks it's time to buy a winch!) The higher spec level will make the driving experiance so much better and no "I wish I had's...." BUT, if you are going to spend most of your time in the bush and banging up against rocks, the lower spec and cost will make the scratches and dings so much less painfull.
If you can feel the grass between your toe's, your flying too low!

I’ve had the pleasure of 10000km’s in a latest model GLX and I must agree, the fancier spec of the GLS is really worth the extra cost. It is not only the electric leather seats, uptown sound system and speed control that is the difference. There are a host of small items such as keyless entry, flickers-in-mirrors, color coding etc that makes the GLS a very nice vehicle – that is if you can afford one. The diff-lock with TC makes a difference in harsh conditions, but how many times do we land up in conditions like that. Go for the GLS, I’d say...and nice pondering until you decide.
My previous three Pajeros were all 3.2 DiD LWB GLS models - 2000, 2003 and 2006. I thank you gents for reminding me of the reasons for getting a GLS. I coudn't see the forest for the trees there for a minute. That said - the later Gen 4 GLX is a heck of a nice car. A buddy has one and has fitted a very cool DVD/GPS/Reverse cam gizmo in his console (all it needs now is a cruise control). If there is a good deal on one, I will not hesitate to move.
My current "GTi" Pajero was bought to sooth the "pain" of an empty nest when the last kid moved off to uni. The power-to-weight ratio and road holding of this 3.8 SWB is astounding. I'll not easily swap it out for a lumbering LWB oil burner, but the itch doesn't want to go away.
I'm off to the Kruger next week and when I get back the new timing belt should have arrived from Taiwan or China or Uzbekistan or where ever these things are hatched - then for the 90k service. I'm a touch bitter because I had the friggen maint contract dates wrong and now I have to pay for the 90k service with hard earned cash. Suppose I'll stick it in the market and the result of that exercise should determine my next move.
