I've currently got a replica Jeep that was built from Nissan, Toyota and Isuzu parts, with a Jeep body thrown on top. While this is a fun vehicle to go on a quick trip when we go camping or so on, I am always worried that something's going to break. Fortunately I've got friends who can help me when it breaks, but I'm moving to the Kalahari soon and I just don't think it's going to cut it, so I'm looking for something else.
I was actually looking for another Jeep Wrangler, just a newer one, because I just feel you can chuck them anywhere and you'll enjoy it. However, a colleague of mine is looking to maybe sell his old Pajero, and now I'm wondering if I shouldn't maybe buy that. The thing is that a Jeep is fun but not always practical, and I may have to use it more as a daily driver now that I'm moving (my other car is a low BMW that doesn't like dirt roads at all!)
Now, I need some advice. I know this guy looked after his vehicle very well, and it's got a full service history, but I'm worried about the mileage of the car. It's a 2000 3.0 petrol SWB Pajero, and it has 358 000km on it. I see that there are a few guys here with much more kilo's on their vehicles, but what are the chances that I'm going to buy it and then something catastrophic happens after 3 months? Is there something I should look out for? As far as I know, almost everything on this Pajero is still original. You should also keep in mind that I'm a beancounter by training and know sweet blue buggerall about what to do if something breaks!
