Good day all
On my way home last night. I pulled off and suddenly there was a huge noise, like two metal plates turning against each other, and my centre diff light flashing.I then slowed down and started to pull off the road when, what ever was engaged , I felt disengagewith a slight clonk noise and metal noise subsided. I drove home about 20 Km with centre diff light flashing. this morning I started the Paj and saw that the light was not flashing and thought ops normal. About 5 km further the diff light came on again, with no noise this time. I stopped and placed the Paj in park. Turnrd ignition off. Started again, bottom greeen lights on, then I decided to place the transfer lever into 4H and drove to work with no problems. Now the Boss"WIFE'. Said that it happened to here about a week ago, but when she pulled off and switched the PAj off, restarted and ops normal untill I DRIVE.
I hope someone can shed some light on this one.
thanking you
HAF A SUPER DAY
Ricky
I had the same a while ago.
More than likely it's the vacuum solenoids between the front right light and the air filter box. Usually replacement is necessary but I fixed mine by cleaning the electrical contacts and taking a vacuum tube from the vacuum pump and directly applying to all the vacuum solenoid nipples 4 or 5 times (alternating) to loosen up the mechanism inside.
The grinding was probably the front diff trying to engage as a failed vacuum solenoid will make the system default mechanically to 4h and bring up the flashing amber light.

What 4e said.
Could possibly also be one of the vacuum pipes that actuate the diff with a pin prick leak. Thus losing suction/pressure that is required to keep the diff disengaged, but rather more common is the solenoids.

Hi all
Ireplaced all 5 switches and thought the problem had gone, but voila, on my way home tonight , it had rained and I went through deep water and again the metal squeeling noise and as I slowed down , something diengaged and the centre diff light was flashing again. Eish

as mentioned, check the vacuum solenoids, their electrical plugs and the vacuum tubes.
Hi Marius
I replaced them all at a cost of R2100

Did you replace the vacuum solenoids (pair) that sits ont he wheel arch between the headlight and the airbox?
Then maybe you have a dud or a perished vacuum tube. Follow the tubes and look for obvious signs of error.

Ricardo, hello!!!
One question, when your diff lock light starts to flash the 2 lights of the rear traction turns off or stays ON?? mine turns OFF. As you said, I only turn off the car and start again and everything looks normal.
BTW, is there any place around here to get the GEN 3 service manual??
Have fun all.
Cheers from Mexico.
