Having a SWB, packing space is always limited. I used to have a bracket and auxiliary battery next to the 40 l Engel in the luggage area but decided it would be great to make more space available and mount the battery in the engine bay.
After lots of measuring, I decided to fit the aux battery between the main battery and fire wall. It was easy to move the horn for the alarm and the relay for the spots. I fitted a 75 amp hour deep cycle battery, which although not huge, will be ideal for running the fridge on overnight stop overs. I mounted the isolator on the fire wall above the battery which made it easy to connect to the alternator and battery.
I ran cables to the back of the car where I installed two cigartte-type sockets. I will probably only use one but I thought a second might come in handy. I also mounted a Lumeno strip on the ceiling next to the high level brake light to provide light for the luggage area.
To monitor the batteries I installed a dual battery monitor on the driver's side of the centre console. Considering the amount of space which I freed up in the luggage area, I really think it was a wortwhile mod.

Nice job, i was also thinking of something similar, but was wondering if a 105ah battery would fit in there, havent even measured it yet.

I have a Paj II '94 EXCEED with two battery spots just like you have placed yours. Both batteries are connected parallelly and are 100AH / 80AH. I'm going to change the smaller one soon but everywhere I read people are saying both batts must be same amperage, otherwise they will "kill" each other. This is a bit conflicting with what I've been told from the people at the battery shop - they claim my Paj is 100amp/80amp according to their battery catalogue.
Anyone can help out with this?
