Dealer Vs Other mechanics
Hi, if anyone could give me some advise i would reallly appreciate it. I have recently bought my First Pajero 3.5 GLS, it has 94000km on the clock.I got the vehicle in JNB about 3 weeks ago and have have gone back home with it to Nelpsruit area. I have been having a few issues with it like the Central diff light coming on when driving, not starting and sometimes juts cutting out. I am keen to take it for a full diagnostic test before i take it back to the place i bought it from so that i know what is wrong before i let them fix the problems. My question is, who would you recomend i take this to for this. I am near Nelspruit but also happy to tarvel to make sure i get honest feedack and help. I know there is s union motors in Nelspruit but have also been thinking about steves auto clinic, Any help will do.

Re: Dealer Vs Other mechanics
Dzombo,

Welcome to the Pajero world - pity it is under a few problems.

The 3.5 motor was discontinued in the Pajeros at around 2003/4. Are you happy they sold you the genuine km's? Does the car have a service book that logically adds-up to the 94 000km?

Here is my advice for what it is worth:

1)Take it to Union Motors and try to get past the ladies at the desk. If you can speak to a senior tech (or better the service manager) and explain to him your situation and if he is keen and willing to help, go for it.

2)Try to explain the full symptoms on this forum of your niggles - you may be surprised how much you could gain from that.

3)Stick the problems right up the nose of the seller and wrap it in a letter from your laywer explaining the Consumer Protection Act to the seller. Get the seller to book your car into Union Motors to be fixed for his account.

Finally, your problems seem small. Most likely a leaking vacuum line on the 4x4 system and a poor earth connection on the battery. The longer I read about such problems on this and other forums, the more convinced I become that the 2nd hand dealers "over valè" the cars and damage some under the body "softer" components. These things are skilfully hidden from the rigors of off-road use, but exposed to high pressure jets being directly aimed at them in the valè shop.

Good luck,
Roelf
