On Friday afternoon my wife called to say that the Pajero was stuck along the road. The engine had cut out. The car would start, but would cut out when she tried to drive off.
She said the fuel gauge was just under quarter and the warning light was not on.
As I was in a meeting and could not leave, I asked her to call Mitsubishi as the car had just had a major service. They seemed uninterested and said that she must limp the vehicle to them. As she was in a rough area, I rushed to see what was wrong.
Although the gauge was not empty. I suspected fuel starvation, so I went to a nearby 4x4 shop and bought a fuel can and tow rope before they closed. Fortunately it was just that the car had rn out of diesel, despite the fuel gauge saying the opposite.
My concern is that the agents were of no help. On the Audis and BMWs I have owned, the recovery assistance is stellar. Surely you can expect the same on a R600k plus car?
I am now forced to take out AA membership for her just in case. Not impressed Mitsubishi.
BTW, what can be wrong with the gauge?

There probably isn't anything wrong with the gauge. You more likely have a dent in your dieseltank, hidden by the plastic cover(can't call it a bashplate) that returned to standard shape. This will prevent the fuel reader to drop to empty, although the diesel would have been used up.Been off roading lately where you banged the bottom perhaps? If it is this make sure you sit down when you get the price for a new tank!
Was the car still under waranty and motorplan? Not sure if the Mitsu motorplan include roadside assistance?

No, it is out of warantee, but so is my Audi. I still get assistance should I need it, althouhg I will have to pay.CATS wrote:Was the car still under waranty and motorplan? Not sure if the Mitsu motorplan include roadside assistance?
