Gen 1
Hi all,

Can some one please help me!

I have a 1985 Pajero 2.6L LWB Gen 1. The 4x4 light on the dash cluster is on all the time even in 2H. When I shift into 4H its on between 4H and 4L it goes off and on again into 4L. I had the switches replaced on the box and still can't seem to get the light to switch off.
The reverse lights on the tail lights don't work either I replaced the switch on the gearbox, still can't get them to work.

regards

Re: Gen 1
Selecting 4WD on the Gen1 is purely mechanical.
The indicator light is 'bling'. I disabled it completely.
If you don't want to repair the switches, merely take out the globe! ;)

Reverse lights:
I would start at the switch and work my way from there:
  • is there 12V on one wire at the switch?
  • does the switch allow the other wire to have 12V when reverse is selected?
  • does the 12V get to the lamp cluster at the back?
  • is the globe making contact?
  • is the globe OK?
The 'fix' will depend on where you answer 'NO'.

I sent the van to a auto electrician he told me there is power to the switches and thinks there is a pin that makes contact between the switches and the box. I don't believe this is the problem, but not sure!
I have disconnected the reverse switch at the box, if I connect it the reverse lights stay on all the time even in forward gears. the globes are fine and making contact

Test the switch manually (removed from the transmission). If the switch works, your sparky is correct, the switch is not activated by the selector.
