Over Xmas I drove the Groot Toren 4x4 track near McGregor. There was a very steep and loose section where 4LLc was definitely necessary. However, there were also some hairpin bends on this steep section with exposed solid rock which could damage the diff and/or lock mechanisms. It is a nuisance to have to stop, go into neutral to change back to 4HLc, and then back into 4LLc a short distance further on.
Has anyone investigated the possibility of disengaging front and rear diff locks more simply, eg using a switch on the dashboard. My son's LandCruiser 100VX Auto has that arrangement --- the diff lock can be switched on and off at will, with the vehicle stationary of course. I am not sure whether the control on the Pajero is electrical or pneumatic. Any comments?
What i do is if i engaged 4llc and rear diff lock, and need to disengage diff lock to go throug a faster section, or around steap turns, i simply push the diff lock button to disengage, leave it in llc and put it in 2nd gear keeping it in LR if i know that i have to engage LR again soon. you dont have a front diff lock to disengage, only a rear and a "center" in 4Hlc.

Does the 2006 model have diff lock? I thought it was equipped with traction control.....
far as i know all have centre diff lock. in gen 3's (afrter 2003 ie face lifted model)only the glx has a rear diff lock. gls versions have traction control
I think Entabeni has RDL and CDL confused. Going from 4hlc to 4llc will make little or no difference to cornering ability

Hey chaps, thanks for all the replies!
My vehicle DEFINITELY has Centre, Rear and Front diff locks. I have a photo taken in Lesotho negotiating an oblique rock sill very slowly in 4LLc with the R F wheel way up in the air and still pulling forward without a problem. A light on the dashboard also tells you that Traction Control is not operative in 4LLc for the very good reason that everything is locked up!
My problem is that when you are in 4LLc you have diff lock whether you like it or not. In other words to get out of diff lock you have to get out of Low Range, which can be very inconvenient. This is not the case in my son's LandCruiser 100VX where you can switch diff lock in or out at will.
I will be away for a week from tomorrow.

Thank you SimonB for your reply. It would seem that I was not clear enough in my original posting. Today's posting is a little more detailed as to what control of the transmission is available on my Gen 3 vehicle.
Thank you 4ePikanini for your reply. Again my new posting should make my meaning clearer.
Thank you Transkeicowboy. The generation change from 3 to 4 took place in 2006 and mine is the earlier Gen 3. On mine traction control operates in 4H and 4HLc but, as explained in today's posting, not in 4LLc.
Thank you GJM for your comment. My new posting should make everything clearer.
Thank you Bostokkelos. It would seem that your vehicle may have more options than mine. What model is yours? As explained in today's posting I do not have separate control of Low Range and diff lock. That is what my initial posting was all about. Thank you anyway.

Firstly if your vehicle is standard you most definitely do NOT have a front diff lock. It's not standard issue on most 4x4's and definitely not the Pajero
Secondly the rear difflock, which where fitted, is independently switched from the Xfer case, except for preventing it from being engaged in 4H or 2H. It can definitely be disengaged at will. Any other "mode" means the vehicle has been modified.
The CDL is ALWAYS engaged in 4HLc and 4Llc. This is by design, and not a fault. This again is is standard behavior on most 4x4's except the odd cruiser, some land land rovers and some jeeps.
I still don't understand your issue really so forgive me.
