Hi all,
I've been reading all the posts in the forum about suspension upgrades etc, but still cant find my answer!
I have a 2000 Gen2.5 LWB 3.5V6 which I use in and around town. I was about to replace my rear springs with OME today, just to find out that I already had OME910's fitted! These are medium duty, I found out.
Now, I was bottoming out on my last overland trip to Mabua in October, and wanted to rectify the problem (granted, I was carrying 'some' fuel on the roof as well as 60l of water in the boot).
Now my question is: do I upgrade to heavy duty OME (R3160) or do I just fit airhelpers (R2600)? As I see it, airhelpers do not actually increase your capacity (maybe Im wrong??) but rather assist the coils to do their work. If this is the case, would it not be better to fit the heavy duty coils?
The Paj drives well (AFAIK) but I need to carry the weight (I do not tow, and dont want to)
Any replies with your thoughts on the situation will be much appreciated!
Thanks!
The airbag actualy stiffen up the coil and thus enable it to carry more weight before it starts to sag. If you are not carrying regular loads I would go for the airbags on your particular model. Even if you go hd on the OME later the airbags will still help in load carrying and thus will not be a lost invetsment. The aded benefit is that you can adjust the coil 'tension' when unloaded to keep the supple suspension in town.

Thanks CATS! Confirms my initial suspicion! Hearing good things about the air helpers...

the courier on such a heavy item will nullify the saving.
thanks for that, i dont no what you would pay for rear shocks but i can get bilstein shocks from the usa for $86 AUS EACH AND ONLY $70 FOR POSTAGE FOR BOTH SHOCKS
ALSO WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE AIR BAGS
regards peter
