you just need some technique to drive the TC in rough terrain... jam your foot in the corner to ensure that the throttle remains at the same level through the obstacle.Lock wrote:I’m going to have to disagree with the majority opinion here. I have had both and feel that the D/L works better than the T/C. This is especially true in rough and rocky terrain, where the D/L keeps the wheels turning all the time regardless of how erratic the throttle application is. With the T/C the drive “disengages” if you do not keep a steady foot on the gas pedal. Very difficult if you are bouncing around! As to the luxuries, if you are just going to use it in the bush, go for the GLX. You won’t feel so sorry for it and there is a lot less to break. (Cheaper too) If you are doing long trips on road to get there with just a bit of bush bashing, the GLS is fantastic, top sound system, leather, cruise control and nice aircon!
Other on the forum have even suggested using your left foot to brake should you need to slow down during the obstacle.
While I agree that DL is probably easier in this type of scenario, if using this car for both every day and off-road/overland, you will need it less than 1% of the time. (in fact I've only needed it on obstacle courses / training sessions).
