Howzit! Can someone please help with a pic or 5 of their tie rod ends on their Gen1, left and right side?
Had them professionally replaced before our Kosi Bay trip and once we started hopping on the sand tracks i picked up that the right tie rod is knocking against the shock absorber going thru hectic bumps.
I have no idea how they SHOULD be on?
Thanks

Thanks for the schematic! Going to help a lot. You don't perhaps have a pic of the right side too? My left side looks the same as in your pic, it is the right side that is knocking on mine.
Did a more thorough visual inspection and matched it to the schematic, turns out I somehow bent the rod (part 47390) that connects the tie rod ends, which in turn pushed the right tie rod into the shock. Installing a new one this afternoon.
Okay, so I replaced the tie rod ends and the pitman arm and then took the photo below. See how close the right side comes to the shock when the wheels are turned as far right as they can go? Is this normal? Must the rod where the pitman and tierod bolt on to be curved as in the pic or must the rod be straight??
it is installed correctly. I suspect your pitman arm lever is too long.
Measure the pitman arm mine is about 120mm from center of balljoint to center of splined steering shaft.
here is a couple of pics of the right side when the car's wheels are facing forward. Turning left or right makes very little difference to the clearance.

Thanks Marius! Turns out my pitman measured 135mm between centres. Having it changed today.
