What's under the carpets ?
Hi,
I'm busy building me a drawer system for the rear of Betty (LWB)
and while crawling around taking measurements I realized the floor under the carpet is not flat but got some bumps.
Anyone know what this is ? could it be wiring/pipes that might get damaged when we bolt down a frame for the drawer system.
Neil.

Hi Neil,

My 2c worth:
Don't drill holes - use the ones that Mitsu provide. Assuming that you are planning a storage system that goes in place of the 3rd row seats, there are four hold downs provided by Mitsu. These each have a threaded centre hole to fix them to the floor. Use these to hold down your framing.

Andrew,
yes that is the idea, only thing is that the square tubing doesnt lay flat everywhere on the carpets (and thus flat against the floor plate) due to the 'humps' and 'ridges' underneath the carpet.
If these 'humps' and 'ridges' are due to cables/pipes then the weight of the frame and whatever is loaded on it will cause problems over time as all this weight will then be ontop of those cables/pipes.

it's not pipes.

The floor is corrugated in a sense which adds strength. A straight piece of metal bends and warps easily.

Hi Neil,

Went and took a closer look.

My drawer system was installed by FrontRunner several year back. they used two pieces of slotted aluminium channel (similar to the cross bars of roof rack that can take an inverted bolt head) running crossways as the base for the system.

Across the back, between the two rear tie downs this seems to be completely flat - no bumps - I think FR removed the plastic bezel for the tie downs.

Across the front of the drawer system all in a relatively straight line across the vehicle there are two tie down points and two bolts that form part of the fixing that the 3rd row seats hook into. You are right that there are some ridges in the floor there - but FrontRunner just ran the aluminium channel over the bumps.

Not sure where you are located but you are welcome to take a look if in my area (Jhb northern suburbs) or I can post a pic or two later.
