Braking heavily, you won't feel it and if you are a relaxed driver it barely downshifts either.

If you are a moderate to aggressive driver a strong downhill (sometimes a touch of brake is needed) might initiate the down gear provided the revs are not going to be over redline when doing so.

Sometimes I do wish that it would not downshift, as freewheeling saves juice! Should just downshift when you tap the brakes. Significant difference between the 2002 and 2008 gearbox as well, with the 2002 much more aggressive on the downshifting. Tested it on Doreen going to Ruimsig, if any of the local boys want to try. Nismo?

remember it's adaptive so if you want to compare you need to disconnect the battery for 2 hours to reset the adaptive learned variables and then drive identical to the test location.

A more aggressive driver will experience easier and harder downshifts.
