Hello, I am working on an unusual project and I'm hoping to find some people who might know some specs on Drive-line components, that could help me narrow down what parts I'll require and what years they are from. Differentials, Diff Carriers, axle shaft compatibility and rear Hybrid LSD from different year Pajero's.
I'm in Canada and my vehicle is a JDM 1996 Delica L400, it had a 6G72 but I'm currently dropping an '07 6G75 Mivec in it. I am purchasing a 5spd Sportronic transmission from a North American 2003 Montero and will attempt to transplant it into my Delica. (Delica has 7.5" front and 9" rear 4.875 R&P)
I'm also trying to swap in the 8" front & 9.5" rear 4.3:1 Ring & Pinion gears from a 2003 Montero/Pajero (north american).
For the Front, I've been told I might be able to fit the complete front diff carrier w/4.3:1 R&P from the '03 Montero into my delica. But that the 8" front diffs have larger inner CV Joints. And I'm not certain if they will mate with my existing front half-shafts.
(I'm in northern Canada and the used parts are in the southern United States.)
For the rear axle, I am hoping to use the rear 9.5" 4.3 ratio R&P from the 2003 Montero, with a Hybrid LSD differential from an 01-on Montero Sport that is hopefully compatible with my Delica rear axle assembly (not sure exactly which years and letter code the Montero/Pajero model is, outside of the US)
I've been told that all the 8" & 9.5" R&P's are interchangable between Gen 2 & Gen 3 Pajero's, but with the 2003 Montero/Pajero having IRS, the carrier is obviously different. Also, that the rear diffs are not compatible between the 9" and the 9.5" rear ends, not only because of the diameter of the ring gear, but the rear axle splines are 31 vs 33 count.
I am going to have to heavily modify my rear axle in order to make this gear ratio change happen. I hope to find out which components fit with which, so I'll know which parts I have to order.
I am 1200km from any wrecker that has Mitsubishi parts and they don't have much available. I am counting on the auto wrecker in the US to confirm which parts they have for me, but I'm hoping to find the North American model year for the LSD that might best fit my application and hopefully what markings might be stamped or labeled on the Axle assembly, that could help ensure I get the correct parts shipped half way across the continent.
I greatly appreciate any help you can offer, and thanks for reading this long winded post.
Cheers,
Ryan
