Gen 2 front diff play, and rumblestrip sound
Hi all, This is my first post here, and I was referred here by wernerk. My better half has a 1994 3.0 V6 Pajero. A week or so ago, we noticed that she was leaking oil from the front diff. (where the sideshaft goes in) last week we took her in to get that looked at, but then she started with this: driving in normal 2H, she starts to sound and feel like we are driving on a very corrugated surface or rumblestrip. gearing, clutch, nothing works, just goes away by itself. In 4H this happens less, but still.
On friday we took her to 3 places to get looked at, first 2 could not work on a diff, but they did notice: play on the sideshaft from front diff to passenger wheel. so suggestion was that bush and seal gets replaced. Another place which does not work on inner CV's, noticed that the circlip on that sideshaft was missing ? she is in this morning at gearmax, who seem to be able to quote us on it, so just awaiting the quote.

Now what I think is happening, is that the sideshaft is moving further out than it is supposed to, and is not quite engaging, thus the gears are grinding ? Should I start looking at a replacement diff or will this be relatively cheap to fix ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. ( we are in Port Elizabeth)

OK, from what I've read so far, it seems that the front left wheelbearing is stuffed, and the bearing on the driveshaft inside the diff. Could see the wheel had play, and felt play on the shaft going into the diff. Will update once I have an official response from gearmax
