Eventually decided to get rid of the OE radio (with crap reception as soon as you leave the big city) and replaced it with a Sony MP3/i-Pod/ Aux/ USB model.
I was actually very attentive to it, especially on the drive down on Friday. I drove a fair amount with the radio off to see what the difference was. My impression was that it was very much dependent on the road surface itself. There were times that I did notice an increase in road noise but it was slight to say the least - basically non-existent with music/radio on. The entire weekend in the park was spent with the radio off and on extremely variable road surfaces - not once was I aware of road noise but I would attribute that too the slow speeds mostly.Gemaskerde Tuinvurk wrote:Notice any change in road noise? I'm thinking of getting these instead if the HTs as well.
I don't know if it was the fact that the tyres were quite literally brand new on the trip down and by the time I came back they already had about a thousand K's on them but on the return trip I wasn't aware of road noise at all - not once - not even slightly! On the trip down though I was but granted I was actively listening for it!
Ok, so location and light not the same and not ideal... but you should get an idea:zeek wrote:Mooi man waar is die fotosGemaskerde Tuinvurk wrote:Finally, I've installed the spacers!
It looks nice and aggressive now

BEFORE: AFTER:
I fitted this nifty auxilary fusebox for all the extra stuff that has accumulated over the years like radios, spots, pumps, compressor etc. Now all the aux fuses are available in one place and in nice order and not where each installer at the time felt the need to fit the fuse for that particular item. Come to think of it, this should be the starting block for any add on to the 12v system.

hi CATS
I have fitted that exact same fuse box to a rubber duck for all the extras for the same reason. Fish-finder, radio, FM radio, Bilge pump. Works very well!

That looks very neat. Each installer doing his own thing with fuses is a perennial problem. Please could you let me know:
1. Where did you get it?
2. What did it cost?
3. How did you mount it? (looks like on top of your aux battery?)
I got it one day long ago in Builders warehouse of all places, can't recall the price. Only got around to fitting it now. Have tracked the supplier down to a place in Cape Town, apparently it is a common used thing on boats, and ordered a new one for my other vehicle as well. Price is around R300. Will get details and send through if you want?andrew.ashton wrote:Hi CATS,CATS wrote:I fitted this nifty auxilary fusebox for all the extra stuff that has accumulated over the years like radios, spots, pumps, compressor etc...

That would be great if you could, thanks.
I just found out that my diesel transfer pump (Long Range tank to std tank) is powered by my aux battery - which was great until the aux battery died - so need to think about how best to rewire.
