I am busy doing an upgrade of my tails lights - will post pics later if there's interest. The wiring in the socket is wired for a fully functional tail light cluster, having 6 wires connected to it. However, the male plug has only 2 pins for the reverse light.
Can anyone assist with a wiring diagram or wire colours and functions. For the brake / tail light I expect there will be a common (-ve) and 1 wire for the tail light ans 1 for the brake light.
Also, any ideas who supplies the special pins that one crimps on the wire then fits into the male plug or where I could get this done? I popped into a local auto electrician and he couldn't help. If I can't come right with this I'll cut the wiring and solder the tail lights directly.

Hi, I am looking to do this mod myself on my Gen3, because when you pull a trailer, the trailer lights are always dodgy compared to the vehicles own rear lights. You buy a good Japanese car and then rely on two cheap chinese Hella ripoffs to make your rearend visible in the night. I have only briefly removed the upper rear lights and have not got into the detail. Don't really know about the special crimp lugs, but imagine Wurth might stock them. The one thing I did thought was to get spare Bulb holders. They are sort of triangular in shape with round corners. On my tailights there are holders that are blanked off, but I thought I would drill and file out the hole to the right shape and size to take the bulb holder. Keep us posted.
GeeCee,
I also had a look at the rear light clusters. My vehicle is fitted with rear bumper lights (indicator & tail/brake light) and there is also the high mount brake light. The rear body cluster however troubles me. I opened it for closer inspection because I fail to understand why a vehicle is fitted with four lenses (indicator? & reverse & park? & tail/brake) of which only one (reverse) is working.
? Not sure
Upon opening I found that both the indicator and the park light's sockets were blanked off. The reverse light is wired and functional but the tail/brake light is wired (single contact which might indicate that it is either a brake light or a tail light but not a combination as is the bumper cluster?) even with a globe fitted but not functional.
I tested it and the rl tail/brake light tested 0.06V with the lights in the on position and stayed the same when I depressed the brake pedal. The rr tail/brake light however tested 0.08V with the lights on the on position but increased to 0.20V when the brake pedal was depressed.
I worked through the manual to see whether I could find a fuse to blame for the lack of functionality but no luck.
I would really like to get it going since it will most certainly improve the visibility / safety of the vehicle in difficult / night driving conditions.
I would appreciate any advise offered with this little challenge.
