What damages can be caused by using a 648 battery instead of the 668 battery for a 3.2did Pajero. I had no choice in buying a 648 battery during a trip and believe this brand new battery should be replaced now
Hi WJB,
I can't seem to find the 648 battery in the SA Automotive Battery Guide (http://www.battery.co.za/LocalAutoSpecs/b-srchSpec.asp)
Are you sure about the number? Did you perhaps mean 646?
The guide shows that the 668 battery has a 20 hour capacity rating of between 80 and 85 Ah and cold cranking rating of 440 to 500 A for the non-AGM versions.
The 646 battery has a 20 hour capacity rating of between 60 and 62 Ah and cold cranking rating of 280 to 320 A. Using this smaller battery instead of the 668 (assuming that this is the one that you are using) would not be detrimental to the vehicle, but the battery will be asked to work much harder than is good for it (it will be more deeply discharged by each starting event than is ideal for a starting battery), which would probably lead to a relatively short life for the battery itself.

In my experience a big battery is crucial for the Di-D. It takes a lot of juice to turn that motor.
A smaller battery will have to work too hard and fail prematurely due to possibly bent plates in the battery.
If I were you I'd use that large battery in your other vehicle and get the biggest battery (spec wise - not size wise) that will fit in the tray.

Hi WJB Now is a good time to fit that dual battery system you always wanted!

If you can feel the grass between your toe's, your flying too low!

Good day
As time allows it, I read as much as I can on this forum and I am learning a lot.
It seems as if you guys know each other well - can you help me by telling me who else has got a 3.2 Pajero Exceed 2000 DID, please?
(although the birthing papers says it is a 1999-model).
I feel a bit lost and need some advice?
I also need to know where I can purchase the reset cd for the MMCS?
Thank you very much.
