Auto vs Manual
Hi all, stupid question but I need to make 100% sure as I'm 99.9% sure a 3.5 engine is the same for a manual or auto as I'm buying an engine from a manual to replace the one in my auto.

Please confirm the 0.1% please

Thanks
Pierre
Auto vs Manual
I'm sure other more clued up members will chip in soon, but to my limited knowledge the 3.5 came in SOHC per bank in the Gen 3 and a DOHC per bank in the gen 2/2.5 . Only difference should be the flywheel in the manual and a flexplate in the auto. Are you taking it out of a similar gen paj as your current one?? Also check for it being a GDI or not.

Re: Auto vs Manual
Hi Nick,

Mine is the Blister fender (2.5 series) with the 24 value DOHC 3.5 V6 1999 model in auto.
6G74 engine

The donor vehicle is a 1999 manual series 2 24 value DOHC 3.5 V6 with a 6G74 engine.

Both non-GDI engines.

If the flywheel is the only diffrence then surely they can take some of my old engine's parts to make it up.

I was almost more concerned about the computer box but I guess that should still be ok if I use mine with my original autobox and the new engine.

As soon as I hear from the Gurus on here I'll pay the deposit.

Cheers

Re: Auto vs Manual
Hi Pierre

It seems that the engine would fit, as the fly wheel and the flexplate can be swapped from the old engine to the replacement one. The electrics am not too sure but I think you can safely assume that it would be a simple plug and plug so to speak, as they are both out of the same year and Gen 2.5 vehicles, albeit auto vs manual but the all the electricery plugs should fit.

BTW why are you doing a engine swap, is your engine beyond repair??

Re: Auto vs Manual
Hi Nick, for intrest sake this is what happend:

The bolt on my centre pully came loose (connected to crakshaft) which caused the pulley and gear to get damaged and the belt to jump a few teeth and a few values to hit.

Estimated repair cost = R17,000 (new pulley and gear, new values, head gaskets etc etc + labour)

My engine has 285K on the clock. I can get this other engine with 142K on the clock for R14,000 which after fitting cost would be about the same as repairing mine but it will be much faster and I'll drop the milage in half.

I took the donor car for a spin and it still goes very well. The guy owns a 'Overhauling' business and they put big engines in to cars. They now busy with a Edinbrock 9.5 liter conversion into a Chevy. So he has a bee in his bonnet to put a 3.5 Chevy SuperCharged engine into the Pajero hence him selling the "nothing wrong with" existing motor.

The only thing I could fault on the donor engine is the lifter noise which is so common I'm not even gonna bother doing them.

Your input?

Cheers
Pierre
