See my previous post here https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/view ... 779#p30697 for what started this problem
I think the culprit for the electrical problem was the radio... I had an aftermarket GPS/MEdiaplayer installed (as well as handsfree kit) and removed it and put back the orignal. I think somewhere in the handsfree kit is a short. But I can't be 100%.
Replaced about 3 fuses and the 120A Fuseable Link in the engine compartment. Everything seems fine now.
EXCEPT for the gearbox which still goes in limp mode... Here is the scenario:
I start the Pajero, Put it in Drive. Nothing happens. After about 10s and revving a bit the gearbox "kicks" in. The selecting 3rd with hard kick and then Neutral light starts flashing. Switch of. Start again. Goed in Drive fine and works 100%.
Any ideas?

Hi,
I had the same limp gearbox in the past winter.
Idle car abotu 15-20 minutes before I leave in the mornings btu as summer came along it got much better. I only had the flashin N a few tiems in the very cold winter days.
I noticed if tempareture is under 14° then it was the worst and took a long time to get away. If temp is under 20 in the mornings now it does have a little revving before pulling away in D but then is fine as soon as we get going.
When she was serviced in November I aksed the guys at Motoworx they said it was the flyuid that is thick and needs to coem to temparature, there was a guy with a LR Disco 3 and said he had the same.
I asked them to check the fluid, if burnt or dirty. All was fine.
Doing fluid replacement and filter at next service in about 7000km

Is the temp sensor not faulty causing the ecu to think the box is overheating and throwing it into limp mode?
Did you solve your problem? Or did summer correct it
. Well we live in Moz and it has been above 30... so definitely not being to cold and oil that is "thick". Also never had problem with "cold" in the -3 winter of Randfontein where we stayed.
I went through most of the manual's diagnostics and it seems like it could be a number of things:
* inhibitor switch
* (section 23-54) -
Abnormal line pressure
Malfunction of oilpump
Malfunction of valve body
Malfunction of ECU's
I sincerely hope it is a small problem, which can be repaired without stripping the gearbox.
Will take it do dealers next week - to drain and replace a/t fluid and then do faultfinding test for section 23-54
Keep us updated!

Hi you can view my 8 month long saga with a similar problem at
https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/view ... =25&t=3960.
In the end the dealer replaced some gear/clutch clusters at a cost close to R40000. ( By this stage I had traded the vehicle in)
I went into the workshop near the end and the Mechanic was cleaning the base of the gearbox which houses the sensors and I smelt the oil which was definitely burnt. It had been recently renewed. I believe the final diagnoses was that dirt had blocked some oil feed passage and the box was overheating as a result.
Anyway the point is that as much as they tried to blame an aftermarket speed control badly connected initially, in the end the sensors were correct and something was wrong inside.

Still struggling with my box.. big decision now:
Buy a second hand one (where??? Any one knows where I can find good second hand box?)
Or who to trust with rebuild?
Any ideas?
Computer diagnosticks gave error
* 54 (i checked the relay no problem)
* 41 1st without completion of shifting
* 44 4th without completion of shifting
* 45 5th without completion of shifting
Errors was cleared but it still does the same (i have not had it on diagnostics again to check it it is again 41,44,45) 54 I suspect apeared because i checked that relay so it was unplugged for a while.
Box is perfect once heated up... but fails to select Reverse in the morning/and shocks when put in D and when selecting 4th fails and then goes in LImp///

Hi llec999,
On what model Pajero is this?
I couldn't find that in your posts - maybe I just missed it.

I would have the solenoid body removed to have the solenoids tested.
If it's at fault import an upgraded one from http://www.automatictransmission.com.au/default.asp
and replace the fluid with Dia Queen SPIII

Thanks Marius - I did replace the fluid last time with DiaQueen as well - I will NEVER use any oils expect geniune oils from Mitsu for my Pajero's.
I still hope it is only the solenoid pack... can you replace this without stripping the box? Can you do it by just removing the sump on the car?

Just a crossmember to remove, then sump then valve body.
