Upper & Lower Control arm bushes
Hi

Background: I've got a 2002 model Gen 3 SWB Pajero 3200 DiD

I've got a rattle in the front and my mechanic advices that it is the bushes of my lower and upper control arms that needs to be replaced because it is worn.

He has come back and gave me a quote on lower control arm bushes, but apparently you cannot buy the upper control arms' bushes separately. According to him I now need to replace both my upper control arms, because it is sold as a unit, at a hefty price.

Does anybody have any advice on this?

Please help, I'm sure somebody must have a solution for this problem

Regards,

Hi Cats

It is difficult to explain but its more that you hear something seems a bit loose when you go over a speed bump.

When driving on a tar road nothing rattles, but if you go on gravel you can hear there is some"play" somewhere in the front part of the vehicle

Hope this answers your question

Thank you
Re: Upper & Lower Control arm bushes
Hmmmmm.

The reason I am asking is that I also have a knocking type rattle sound coming from the front right when going over bumps or traveling on corrugated roads. Initially thought it was front right shock which was replaced recently with IM. Thought I traced it for sure when we checked the front shock and found the bush on the shock to be kaput :o (Shock only did 5000km!) Anyway bush was replaced by IM at no cost but the knock is still there. The shock tested out OK so not there. The IM boys reckon there is play on the steering rack and that that is the reason for the knock, but I am not so sure. I will take it in on next service and ask them to try and pin it down. Listening to you I hope it is not the same problem as yours. Will give feedback as we go along. Please keep us updated from your side as well.

Thank you CATS, I feel much better now.... ;)

The lower control arm bushes are relatively cheap @ R279 a side, all I need is some one to tell me where I could buy upper control arm bushes.

Secondly, will it cause more damage if I only fit the lower control arm bushes but not the upper control arm bushes?

Thank you

Re: Upper & Lower Control arm bushes
I hqad to replace my left lower control arm after a car hit my left fron tyre and I can tell you those things ar rather solid, so before spending the money jack the car with a wheel off the ground and tug on the tyre and see if you detect play on there or else take it to a decent wheel alignment place and let them have a look.

I bought second hand control arms (left upper and lower) from Parthunt for R700 IIRC.
