Ball joint in Pajero Steering column
There's been the odd little squeeky sound coming from Swambo's Pajero's steering column. Mitsubishi Umhlanga had a look at it and they say it is a ball joint in the steering column that is dry, they don't know how long it will still last before it seizes and they suggest we replace the unit, which is a sealed unit and the cost will be R4500. Quite a bit of money to pay for a dry ball joint! Do any of you guys have some knowledge of this type of problem? How bad is it really? Can I just leave it?

Re: Ball joint in Pajero Steering column
ask them for the part number of the culprit.

We can look here what part they are talking about.

EVH

Are they sure it is the ball joint? I also had a squeaky steering at one stage and Freek at Mitspro just gave everything a good lubrication and all's well after that. I also found the rubber housing where the column goes through the firewall to become noisy sometimes. Quick spray of Q20 in there and noise goes away until next trip. Sometimes even a good wash does the trick :)

Re: Ball joint in Pajero Steering column
Hi guys,

Thanks for your input. I am trying to obtain the part number and will post it as soon as I get it from them.

CATS - the problem seems to be that the steering column is a sealed unit and cannot be lubricated. Is there a way you know of?
