Well, just as I was about to sell my beloved Pajero I picked up a horrible vibration in the back. Turned out to be the rear inner shaft bearing.
While in there I also replaced the rear suspension bushes and diff mountings as they looked decidedly tired after 285000km.
With the added expenses spent I have decided to keep the vehicle a little longer although I had plenty of interest and withdrew it from the market. Maybe she was just getting back at me for even thinking of selling her:lol:

Damn straight! My pajero kicked the treg in the cylinder when it saw it was being traded in. Cost me a penny to sort that nonsense out!
So glad i am not the only one suffering from Pajero kickback.
Talked about selling mine last week and next moment a seal on the rear diff popped.

Excuse my ignorance. Is that the bearing that the companion shaft runs in? What diff oil were you running? Have you ever had a companion shaft pop or the oil seal fail? Have you speculated on what could have caused that failure?
For the bushes did you use OEM or 3rd party polyurethane bushes?
Yes it is the bearing that the shaft runs in if I understand it correctly. Diff oil was as per Mitsu spec, not sure exactly as I had it done at a suspension specialist, Syds Suspension Parts in Pretoria. I had the companion shaft pop out many years ago and had the upgraded shafts and clips fitted then. Never ran dry on oil or had a seal fail in its life. I suspects that the bearings got damaged while I ran my vehicle with longer coils plus spacers for a while giving it too much of an angle. I have subsequently taken out the spacers again. The failure was not catastrophic, it just made some noise when cornering but still went well.andrew.ashton wrote:Hi CATS,CATS wrote:Well, just as I was about to sell my beloved Pajero I picked up a horrible vibration in the back. I replaced the bushes with polyurethane ones which definitely gives a bit of a firm/harsher ride than I think original rubbers would have done, but not uncomfortably so.

Yes, I did the same job on my Gen 1 for the same reason, just days before a big off road trip where 4WD was essential.
I purchased the 2007 sealed bearing (rubber seals) from a bearing shop, and the shaft seal 62 x 78 x 7 double lip from a seal shop. No issues since.
