Hi everyone
I am in need of some help/advice.
My SWB 99 V6 3L Pajero does not have a difflock. I am very impressed with its capability thus far on 4x4 trails.
I am looking for fit a diff lock on the rear to be able to do more challenging obstacles.
Does anyone have any suggestions or prices, dealers that i can contact? Specs on sizes of a difflock.. Detroit lockers? Trutrac?
Any help will be appreciated
Kind regards
Chris
Hi guys,
A while back I made inquiries about fitting a difflock (I have a 99 2.8 SWB Pajero), the consensus was anything from 12000 to 20000.
Considering that you can buy a brand new dif from the dealer at around that price it wasn't really an option for me.
Let me know if you find anything cheaper!

Yip they told me the same thing but it went up to more like 25 000, then i might as well sell my vehicle and get another WITH a diff lock. There are a few (very few) 1st gen swb pajeros that came with difflock, so i am also keeping an eye on scrap yards with pajeros that possibly have a diff lock that will fit on mine. Holding thumbs!

Call Part Hunt in PTA and see if they dont have a rear diff.
I know the Gen 3 fits into a Gen 4, not sure if this would fit into your model though

Hi, on that point, I also considered fitting a diff -lock when I was advised by guys that used to do lots of river crossings that a winch will serve the purpose better especially considering the cost. Last weekend we took a trip along the Olifants river (lots of mud/silt) and I came to the same conclusion. The Pajero will go far enough with the limited slip diff and when the going gets tough all the cars need a winch and a snatch block and lots of pulling power. There were cruisers that was throwing off side shafts.
The front diff lock can only take you that far, after which you need recovery gear.
If the diff lock was cheaper I would have had both.
Regards,

Hello to all,
There is a company called Kaiser that makes a mechanical diff locker that works automatically. No wires or pumps or nothing. Price is basically R10k for front or rear.
The real money would come in with the import duties though as they are made in brazil.
Good luck.
