My Gen 3 3.2 has a warning buzzer that sounds when I turn on the ignition.
The sound comes from the behind the dash, its loud and is 4 or 5 short fast 'chirps'
It only happens sometimes and only when I fire up the car. At first I thought it was if the door was still open but this morning it happened with the door closed. There are no warning lights, I cant find anything in the manual and I have searched this forum and the 4x4 forum to no avail.
Its trying to talk to me and I dont understand its language.
Your thoughts please
this might be a stupid question but its not the safety belt warning buzzer is it?
Do these vehicle have such a warning device ? If they do and this is it then its faulty because I have often starting the car without seat belt on and it hasn't sounded.
Could be the hydraulic brake booster alarm.
To verify if it is, pump the brake pedal rapidly for a while. This will exhaust the pressure in the hydraulic brake accumulator and will lead to an alarm sounding. If it is the same sound, then you could have an issue with the accumulator or another part of the hydraulic brake booster system.

Thanks Gerrit, I will try that.
The buzzer sounded again this morning. I immidiately checked the 'conditions' at the time.
All doors closed
No warning lights
Seat belt not on yet (but other times it has not sounded when I have not yet put seat belt on)
I checked manual and it seems that there is no seatbelt warning buzzer. I had noticed that there was a wire cable tied to the drivers seatbelt stalk so wondered what that could be. I then noted that it led to a round, flat button stuck to the side of the seatbelt buckle as used by vehicle tracking devices. Panic button
Could this buzzer have anything to do with a tracking device ?

Alright, I was asking since my 07 4-1 has a buzzer for the safety belt, most annoying thing so disconnected it after two days of ownership (was hoping your issue was that simple).Dirty Boy wrote:Do these vehicle have such a warning device ? I agree with Gerrit. Might be the Brake Booster Accumulator starting to pack up. There was a recall on some of these models some years ago. The accumulator sits right in front of the steering wheel inside the engine bay and make a chirping sound if faulty.
Keep us updated and do that brake pump test as suggested.

Ok, this is getting interesting.
Ive just gone out to my Paj and tried the brake test as per Gerrits advise.
Started car with door open, no seatbelt, There was no buzzer.
Pumped the brakes rapidly about 6 or 7 times and I get a continuous warning sound and the following lights came on: ABS. ASC & ASC OFF. This lasted for a few seconds and then the buzzer and the lights went off. The brake pedal felt good all the time.
NOW, this warning buzzer was continuous and definitly not the same one as described in my first post.
Another thing. Is this brake system connected in any way to the MAP sensor ? Reason I ask is that I have another post commenting on the ASC and ASC OFF light that came on under heavy load. I have not yet, but plan on cleaning the rubber tube that leads to the sensor.

Just rereading these posts, I need some clarity.
After doing the brake test, getting the buzzer and lights etc, is this normal ? ie that isnt a problem ?
CATS you refer to a chirping if the accumulator is faulty. This 'chirping' describes my original problem best. Also, is it feasable that I only get the chirping noise sometimes because the accumulator has a 'slow leak'
This could explain why it only chirps in the morning (sometimes)after sitting all night ?
Im getting worried about cost now. If the Accumulator was a recall issue could I still get that changed free of charge ?

The behaviour that you described is normal. Pumping the brake pedal in rapid succession for a while is not a normal driving operation and this depletes the pressure in the brake accumulator leading to the warning buzzer and dashboard lights.Dirty Boy wrote:After doing the brake test, getting the buzzer and lights etc, is this normal ? ie that isnt a problem ?
Unfortunately normal behaviour during the above test does not guarantee that the accumulator is OK (the test just guaranteed that the brake system buzzer would go off so that you could determine whether this was the sound you were hearing). From what you are saying it sounds as though you have a chirping accumulator. I have no personal experience of that issue, but as Cats said, certain earlier Gen 3s were recalled because of these accumulators.
