Ok Dual battery system 99% complete. I just need to fit a proper connector at the rear end.

I already had a holder for the second battery installed. I built a 3.5minute timer to switch on a cole-hershey (look alike at R140). I made short fat cables between the 2 bateries and the Relay/solenoid. and connected the timer input to the hornr circuit.

The difficult part was feeding the 2 x 6mm2 cables thru the rubber boot into the cabin, then up the left front pillar into the roof and to the back. I then fed it across the door in the roof to the right side panel and down.

I hope my battery lasts longer this time and the freezer stays frozen.

I'm also installing cable for a battery in the luggage compartment.

I've removed the trim from the A-pillar and the top trim in the cargo area on the left hand side.

I have removed all the hand grip thingies but when I push the wire through it gets stuck near the center pillar.

Should I try to push it through closer to the middle of the roof liner ?
OR should I remove trim from the center pillar and loosen the roof liner slightly to get access?

I cant seem to get images of how the roof liner is fixed - can I just pull it like I did the rear panel until the clips pop ?

Or should I just be try again until it goes through

Or is 2 16mm2 just to thick to go via the roof ?

There was plenty of space in the roof area from the A-pillar all the way to the back of the car, so I have no idea why you are having a problem. I used a small draw wire to pull them through and could see the front of the car if pulled the roof lining down at the back of the car.

Just make sure the wires you are using will be thick enough to charge a battery installed at the back of the car as the load can be high (large amps current draw). Make sure you have a fuse installed at the engine side as you cannot afford a fire in the car. With my modification the second battery was mounted in the engine bay and hence short thick cables between the two batteries and the solenoid. The cables I ran to the back of the car where to run fridges only so the current draw will never be as high as that required for a second battery mounted in the rear of the car.

I had success this evening and now have 2 16mm2 cables running from the dash to the rear coming out at the cover for the 3rd row of seats.
:D

If I want to extend the cable to allow for a trailer connection - are the any good routes for getting the cable to the outside under the bumper ?

I mounted a rear view camera and found that if you remove the plastic liner where the 3rd row of seats would be stored there is a rubber grommet through the body work. This is right in the middle at the rear of the car. You can see the grommet if you crawl under your car and look between the rear bumper and the seat well. I made a very small hole through the grommet and then forced the wiring through the rubber grommet and have never had any leaks that I know of.

Thanks - found the grommet - and it seems I wont need to takeout the plastic liner either. I just unclipped the top cover end between the liner and the back door.

The wire went straight through the rubber holder.
I've seen a few photos on the net where the same happened is it a problem ?

Are you worried that it went through so easily or what was your concern :shock:

I pushed the wire out from inside the car through the rubber boot
and thought I will get some resistance after which I could guide it towards the opening.

But instead it went throigh th boot with out any resistance - perhaps the cable point was sharp ?

The boot is self does not seem warn other wise.
