Rear Diff Needed
I have a 3.2 LWB Pajero (2003). Unfortunately the rear-diff needs replacement.

Can anyone PLEASE assist me where to find a rear-diff at a reasonable price?

Why does the diff need replacement? What mileage has it done? Mine is a 2001 model and the diffs are still A-OK so I would like to know why yours need replacement?

Is this not the famous sideshaft pulling out of diff story?

Yes - your'e right - the sideshaft has pulled out of the diff....... It sounds by your wording(famous) that there is a catch to this and that this has happened before. Would like to hear more. I have bought the vehicle last year on 130 000km, currently standing on 148 000km. funny thing - I have never even taken it on off-road, apart form the tourism route (gravel) of the Prins Alfred Pass. The service dealer say that I shpuld have hit a pothole causing the sideshaft pulling out of the diff.
Re: Rear Diff Needed
The service advisor would be talking bull.

This is a reasonably common problem on the Gen3 Pajero's with about every one in seven Pajero Gen 3 being affected from my research. It seems to have nothing to do with towing, off roading or suspension lifts.

There is a bigger circlip version that should sort out your problem, hopefully for good. By the way, if this happens on route the shaft can just be pushed/hammered back in place and it should last until the next service at least.

The problem is not so much the shaft popping out, it actually only moves about a mm or so, but rather the loss of diff oil. If you continue to run the diff until dry it would permanently damage this and could lead to a costly repair. If you caught it early enough and kept the diff oils at reasonable levels, the diff should still be fine and you might only need the upgraded sideshaft or bigger circlip fitted to keep it from happening again.

This is the only soft spot on the gen3's that I have discovered thus far and is not a biggy to sort out if caught in time. Unfortunately there is no tell tale signs before and also some vehicles seem never to be affected by this.

Apparently later models from 2004 or so came fitted with the upgraded shaft as standard, but I do not have proof of this.
