New Pajero owner with questions
HI All

I have just purchased my first pajero and new to this. Unfortunately, I bought this vehicle second hand in JHB from a private sale and now am finding that It has a few small problems. Are there any pajero owners in Port Elizabeth with workable knowledge to help me. Vehicle is a 2000 3.2 DI-D lwb. Is seems this vehicle was in a front ender and I have a problem with the sub assembly on the from . i have taken it to the panel beaters and they have pulled the chasis straight, but the one wheel is still 30 mm in front of the other. They say the sub-frame or control arm is bent. I now have the vehicle at Align-pro to try and sort out. Not many pajero's at second hand dealers in PE. I also need an intercooler, as the one on the paj is damaged.

Can I use a SAC replacement or stick with the original?

Help would be appreciated

Thanks

Small problems. I would be really and totally cheesed off about the small problems you describing. Did you know about these? If so, then your best bet is to have it straightened out properly. If not, I would try and give the car back... ;)

Re: New Pajero owner with questions
HI

Ja. Small problems. Did not know about them, but for the price that I paid, will have to repair these.

Handling is good on the Paj. I have had the chasis checked and the nose is straight. What I have is a diffenrence in the wheel base. Right side is 2770mm and left side is 2800mm. There is no pulling on the steering, just do not like the look of the gap between body and wheel and as an engineer, this bothers me. I suspect that the nose is slightly twisted and needs to be pulled down on the left and up on the right. This will bring the wheel base back to spec

Have always wanted one and now will start to repair and replace parts on this one.

2000 model with 192000 km on the clock. Rest of vehicle is in very good condition for the model.

Do you know if it worth while fitting a SAC intercooler

Thanks

I personaly think the 3.2 DiD is plenty strong enough. Diesel engines dont like working hard, bur preferably slow and long... Me perosnally, No, I wopuldnt.

You can also do a search on the community forum, plenty of SAC answers there if you search, but having jsut skimmed them, I found nothing really conclusive.

I think not. The Mitsu inter cooler is a high tech one (this is confirmed if you get the replacement cost).

It might be a good idea to clear the inside of the inter cooler properly.

I agree with Kai. The Di-D has more than enough power - don't touch it.

Have the timing chain guide checked - some wear, break and cause other damage.
Best oil and Mitsu filters are all they ask.

Re: New Pajero owner with questions
HI All

Thanks for the advise. I am having the service done next week.

Will have to search for a Mit intercooler as mine needs replacement as there about 50% compressed cores on the one side.

As a newy, are there any special precausions that I need to take with the 3.2 Do's and Don'ts to ensure that I have a problem free 3.2

If you know know of any intercooler around, please let me know

Thanks

A intercooler is only a radiator that passes air through it to cool down the hot air from the turbo as cooler air is denser than hot air and therefore more performance.
A genuine part will be very expensive not proving anything for quality or high tech. I think a aftermarket intercooler such as SAC intercoolers will do the job as long as it has the same size inlet and outlet pipes as well as radiator surface area or larger for sufficient cooling.

Hope this helps you.

All intercoolers are not the same.
The efficiency of exchanging heat per sq. mm differs.
The Mitsu intercooler as fitted to the Di-D is a very high spec part.
I've seen the inside (eg the design of the heat transfer fins) and I can assure you that you get what you pay for.

Re: New Pajero owner with questions
Hi 4ePajero

Just a bit of feed back the regarding the Mit intercooler. I managed to source one off a 2006 at a local scrap yard and after cleaning this and replacing, what a difference. I am actually amazed at the preformance that has been gained from this. Will see what effect this has on consumption on the long weekend. Might be my imagination, but vehicle sounds quieter and revs more freely. I also replaced the tappet cover gasket and cleaned the EGR valve.

Slowly sorting out all problems and enjoying this vehicle so far
