Gen 3 haywire speedo and N flash
Hi all, bought a 2003 Gen3 DiD SWB AT (with M-ASTC) with close-on 224000km beginning of this month (almost on 225000km now). Car is in nice original condition and going well. Took it to Mitspro for a major service and check-up and they gave it a clean bill of health.

This post is about two problems which seem to be related, so in order of appearance, they are:

1. The speedo goes "haywire" (i.e. jumping around) after extended periods of stop/start driving. This of course renders the cruise control useless which is rather frustrating. Practical example - went to De Wildt 4x4 today, no problem on the way there (75km trip) but heading home after off road driving it did its thing. As a side note, the jumping is directly proportional to throttle input.

2. Got a flashing "N" light this afternoon, with the box going into limp mode (luckily close to home). Switched the car off and on and problem was gone for a few kilos. Took a drive later and no problem. A/T Temp light did not come on. Did not get any warning lights or flashes during off road driving, car performed very well.

After doing some reading online I get a feeling the problem might be (one of the) the speed sensor(s) on the box (known to cause the N flash) which might explain the the sporadically erratic speedo. I'm not suspecting a problem with the box itself as it performs faultlessly (i.e. smooth and responsive) otherwise.

Would greatly appreciate some insight/input in this regard
Re: Gen 3 haywire speedo and N flash
If the speed sensor is not the problem i might have a solution for the erratic speedo. Google pajero guru. On his website there is a fix for erratic temp gauge. Some guys don't follow the last few steps and that can cause the speedo to jump. If it's not the speed sensor, it might be worth a look.
