Hi Gerhardt,
What size spacers did you put in your Pajero (25mm or 16mm) and what lift did you get? Are you happy and did you stay with standard shocks?
Malcolm
Hi Andrew, I am also going to do so shortly, where did you source the blanking plates/flange from?andrew.ashton wrote:

eBay from UK.
The kit comprised:
a blank flange for the exhaust manifold end
a blank flange that fits on the inlet manifold below the EGR valve
a plug for the vacuum pipe (I didn't bother, I left the EGR valve connected
sundry nuts and washers that I am not sure what for - maybe differs on eg Delica / other models.
Fortunately I got them a while back, but have been sitting in a cupboard. CATS' latest saga prompted me to proceed.

Yesterday,
Sorry, no pics - will have to wait for the rain to stop!
1. Sent Dusty in for a decat and to replace the first silencer box after the cat.
Why did I do this?
1. I doubt that the catalytic converter is doing much for emission control after 250000km and 12 years.
2. I expected that the cat would be blocked sufficiently to result in higher EGTs. According to the Powerflow owner, the cat was blocked so that you couldn't see sunlight through it - not sure that that means anything, because I am not sure that you can see sunlight even through a brand new one.
3. I didn't like the way that the OEM box protruded so far down - a good chance of catching on things off road.
Who did this?
Xcede Performance & Powerflow Randburg, Corner Standard Close & Langwa Street, Strijdompark, Randburg - contact Alistair 011 791 6037
What did it cost?
Decat: R650
New box: R1500
All inclusive of labour & VAT
How long did it take?
About 3 hours once they started on it - its a smallish shop so have to wait your turn.
What do I think of it?
Seems to have been done neatly.
It is a little noisier when you put foot. (Masks the road noise from the BFG ATs!) Again will have to see what it is like on a long trip.
Vehicle seems a little more responsive, but it is too early to tell properly.
So what am I doing with / to my Pajero today? You will have to wait and see.

Hi Andrew. Great posts and thanks for sharing. Chris did mention that your temps were a little elevated going up the mountain. Glad you addressed the issue early.
Yes, Cat's story is an eye opener, if only for the fact that we know his Pajero is well maintained and cared for and still turned round and bit him. That is good reason for "over the top" maintenance.
I'm almost willing my big box to burn through so I can fit a smaller one. Not to sure what the 3.8V6 will sound like though. I'm too old now to be one of the "Noize Boyz"

Yup - it's one thing getting a low-bed from Upington or Bloem, somewhat more stressful and expensive if it from Kasane or Mana!RoelfleRoux wrote: ... Yesterday:
Removed intercooler and took it to Silvertons Radiators at Strijdompark (Rudi - 011 792 5175) for a good clean outside and a de-oil flush internally and also to try to straighten a couple of bumps that have been there since I purchased the vehicle in 2005! R468 excl VAT if you remove and refit. Add about another R500 if you want them to remove and refit.
Today:
Picked up the internally bright & shiny cleaned intercooler. Silvertons did a flush, but found that there was still some oily residue, so ended up doing a second flush. They also do a pressure test to make sure there are no leaks. Doing a double flush meant that they took longer than the planned 3 hours.
Why did I do this?
Because over time there will always be a buildup of oily residue in an intercooler. Typically that may come from the crankcase breather and perhaps from weeping of turbo seals.
The internal oil film then reduces the cooling capacity of the intercooler, which means that engine efficiency is negatively affected.

Removed 2nd & 3rd underbody protection plates.
Took car for drive to reach normal operating temperature.
Drained engine oil.
Ran about about 1litre of new oil through to flush sump pan as best as possible.
Removed oil filter, making sure old filter seal came out with filter.
Primed new OEM oil filter with new oil.
Ran a film of new oil around the new oil filter seal.
Cleaned the surface to which the oil filter oil seal mates.
Screwed the new oil filter in and tightened to suit.
Old sump plug washer removed.
New sump plug washer fitted.
Sump plug screwed in by hand as far as possible then tightened to 39Nm.
New oil (Delo 400) to 1mm or so above dipstick full mark.
Started engine and ran for a couple of minutes (to ensure filter fully charged).
Rechecked oil level.
Topped up to 1mm or so above dipstick full mark.
Leave overnight to check for leaks before a warm up run tomorrow morning.
Left underbody protection off because ATF needs to be changed tomorrow.

Went for a drive to get ATF to temperature then did a full ATF flush and replaced with DiaQueen.
Rotated tyres: I have two spares, so basically I have 3 pairs of tyres that I keep as axle pairs. I always keep the same one of the pair on the same side (so each tyre always rotates only one direction on the road). Spares to fronts, fronts to rears, rears to spares.
Checked for any bearing issues and for brakepad wear at the same time - all seems good.
Dropped in at the local BP garage that has a digital tyre pressure gauge and set fronts to 2.6bar and rears + spares to 2.8 bar for highway cruising.
Went for a highway test drive to ensure no obvious wheel balance problems.
Replaced underbody protection after a satisfactory test drive.
