It's very sad to hear this.

The oil could be rings not bedded in, turbo leaking, valve stem seals etc.

Take your extras off, sell it with full disclosure and move on.

It just confirms my feeling that there aren't any good rebuilders for modern engines out there any more, hence why I went for a good second hand engine. Very sad indeed to hear of your woes.

I'm not too sure what is expected of us fellow Pajero owners at this stage. I don't think there are any technical gaps that we can fill in for you. You have done all you can and spent a huge chunk of cash, and still you lack the very essence of Pajero ownership: - Complete trust in your car.

A have to agree with Marius, strip off all the extras and sell. I don't have to say "full disclosure", because I don't have to.

If anybody deserves that NSRI draw, it must be you.

I should not make comments that can not be proven BUT if Snoopy is using oil at the rate that you mentioned AND is still running hot then somebody did not do their job!!!

It is true that whilst the rings are bedding-in, the engine may/can use some oil but at your rate, it is NOT bedding in, it is "suiping" oil like an alcoholic. In fact it is running on lubricant and not diesel!

Take it back to your engine reconditioner. If they are trying to stop overheating by wiring the aircon fan so that it runs permanently, they do in fact acknowledge that something is wrong but are trying to get away with a Heath Robinson trick. If they are a reputable organisation, threaten them with the ombudsman for the motor industry.

Thanks for your "condolences". AB have profusely denied that they have fiddled with the electronics so they say they did not touch the electric fan workings? Maybe it is running continuously because it is sensing higher temps? I dont know. All I know is that previously it only ran when the aircon was on, and even then only for shorts bursts at a time. I will check again tonight.

To be kind to AB, they have done a lot of work on the car, also a lot for which I was not charged additionally and they have so far stood by their warranty. But this still leaves me with a car that I do not feel 100% happy with and one which I have expected more from the engine rebuild. My advice to someone in a similar situation than mine: Put low mileage second hand motor in from a rolled/crashed vehicle. I should have gone 4m41 common rail from later Pajero or Triton as they are more available with lower mileage than the 4m41 pre common rail like my old car.

I will now put it under covers for 2014 and tackle the problem with new gusto in 2015. Maybe go camp with it and see if my oil consumption subsides. Wishful thinking maybe?

One thing is sure and that is that I see a new touring car on my horizon. Will it be the 3 diamond brand? I don't know, but at this stage I somehow feel it might not be. Hell it might not even be a diesel

That would have been GREAT, but unfortunately/fortunately I am flying out on holiday on Saturday morning.

It would have been realy great if you could have given me your opinion. Maybe I will still drive it down to you early in the new year or sponsor a flight ticket up here as I would really value your inputs, having some first hand, grease under the fingernails, experience on these engines!

Hi Cats... dont know if this will completely break your spirit or not... I have a "1985 toyota hilux 2.4D" (just listen ) that I had to have rebuild in south america in Paraguay (look it up if you have to)... all four piston, diesel pump, etc. etc.... the workshop's most advance equipment was the stereo blasting in the background. I am not blowing Toyota's horn... the point is older builds without turbo's we're easier to rebuild than newer engines.
My baby.. 1998 LWB GLS 2.8 non-turbo... almost 275.000.kms - up till now luckily hasnt had anything big (touch wood)... As far as I heard here (South America), you cant win against a rebuild on a turbo. It just keeps piling up... like in your case...

I dont have any advice either... since I know/understand the ( if I dare say ) "bond" you have with Snoopy... But as Disney showed us... All dogs go to heaven (eventually)...

Good luck, and please keep us updated, since a lot of us "high-mileage clubbers" are going to go through the same in a couple of years.

Hi Cats

I have been having a chat with my dad about your engine last night as I really feel for you after all this nonsense. I know the feeling. We threw some thoughts around and we both ended up with the likely possibility that your new waterpump may be a dud.

It may be worth swapping it out. Double check the thermostat as well. Make sure it's a genuine one. The pirate ones don't work. Been there, done that.

perhaps pull the thermostat out and put the housing back. Then start the car with a radiator hose removed. The waterflow should be pretty strong with a slight rev of the engine. A video will be great to gather opinions.
