4x4 Selection lights
Hi guys. I am having a problem with my 4x4 transmission lights.
Start my 3.2 Did and drive for about half an hour and the transfer gear selection lights changes from 2×4 rear green lights to flashing orange central diff lock light. Stop vehicle. Switch off and re-start and goes back to usual 2x4 green rear lights. Continue and same thing happens 30 min down the road. Anyone experience any similar problems? And know the cause?
Re: 4x4 Selection lights
I knoe of someone that had a similar problem turned out the battery needed replacement. Have your battery checked.
Re: 4x4 Selection lights
Rusti,

It's an indication that there's something wrong with the 4x4 system. Mine did the same.
While is was OK to drive it like that in 2H the real problem revealed itself when I tried to shift back from 4H to 2H. The green lights would be flashing as if it's trying to get into 2H mode but all of a sudden the centre orange light will come on and this was followed by a grinding noise as if the gears were not properly engaged.

Had it checked out and after cleaning the shifter and checking the sensors and vacuum hose connections it turned out to be the actuator that needed replacement. While this was quite a pricey item to replace it could have been something as simple as a vacuum hose that came of.

While your problem could be something different I would have it checked out.

If you're in Johannesburg speak to Louis at CNET (Bramfisher Drive Randburg, Tel zero 11 787 771 seven).
I had very good service from them.

Re: 4x4 Selection lights
Hi all

Hope someone can give me some helpful info to my problem.

Now that I am on leave I did some traveling with me 2001 3.2 DID SWB. I now have the same problem where 2 x 4 lights goes off and the orange center one flashes. I stop switch off and restart and all is fine. This happens at separate intervals as I traveled 500km then it happened and then 20km later again then 200km home all fine. Next time out after 160km it happened and 130km to home all fine. What could I check ?
I have checked the plugs on top of the gearbox.
Are the wheel sensors associated with this light ?

Thanks

Re: 4x4 Selection lights
I had the same problem with the C/D Lock light coming on, sometimes a few seconds after I start the car. What fixed mine is a gearbox and transfer oil change. The switches could also just be sticky or a problem with the vacuum sensors by the airbox
Re: 4x4 Selection lights
Where does this vacuum sensor sit at the air box ?
Are you referring to the air filter box ?
normally the two rear wheel lights glow green, these go out and the CD lock light flasher orange. The owners manual says that there is a problem with the drive train when this happens, but if you restart the car and it clears all is fine.
The problem mine only happens after 100's of KM's.

Re: 4x4 Selection lights
Yes the solenoids are located under the air cleaner.

This is what they look like

Thank you

I will have a look and see.
If anything else comes to mind please let me know.
The only thing I have done since my last long trip to JHB and back with no problems is service the DID and replace the front left wheel bearing. Now C/D light problem that's why I was wondering if the sensor on the wheel for the ABS has anything to do with it ?
