I bought a new 2015 Pajero Sport 2.5. The smoke emitted from the exhaust seems a bit excessive even at slow speeds. Does anyone else out there experience this too? I have been back to the Dealer and they reckon it is standard on these vehicles? I don`t really buy their explanation though.
I have noticed this on the pjs but also on the new ranger 2.2 and one or two smaller diesel cars.
Its usually a whitish/blue smoke which usually indicates a bit of overfueling allowing a bit of unburned diesel to pass through.
It should be rectified by plugging in at the dealer and setting the ecu.I would get an opinion at another dealer if i was you.

Hi there. The pajerosports 2.5 did has no diesel particulate filter on the exhaust. The older 3.2 pajsports had them, so why Mitsu decided not to fit one on the newer model, is a mystery. So black soot will pass unhindered. Also, your engine is probably as tight as a drum now. The smoke will decrease has she runs herself in. Things to check are your cruise control (surging ever so slightly when set) and how updated your ecu software is. Mitsubishi have no idea what software to run these ecu's on, so they "update" the software every couple months in a bid to cure the turbo lag, high fuel consumption (only on the auto), and surging cruise control issues
. My personal advice is just to give it time until you pass about 15k kilometers.

Have done 30k on my 2.5 and not sure if it has improved. Pulling away slowly seems fine, not much smoke is omitted but a bit of a fast pull away omits quite an embarrassing plume of smoke but interestingly not all the time?
Not sure if that helps but it looks like it's an inherent issue amongst all the 2.5's otherwise I haven't noticed this impacting on her performance at all.

My Sport smoked when new, but now at 20 000km it has reduced significantly. I must add I asked the Dealer (Paarden Eiland) to look at it.
Only under severe hard acceleration do I now see smoke and that seems normal for diesels...

Hi- new to this forum. Previously owned a Disco 3 but recenttly bought the Pajero Sport 2014 and now having some regrets.
I have 6500ks on the clock and also getting the very black smoke on excessive acceleration- there is also some smoke on normal driving. I have been flashed a few times by other cars who think there is a problem with my car - there is that much smoke.
I would also like to know what consumption people are getting. Currently in town driving i am getting between 7.3-7.5 ks maximum per litre- this seems very low. Today the reserve light has come on and i have done 414ks. My driving is very steady and not aggresive.
I live in malawi and have tried to get some sense from the dealers but nobody can tell me what the consumption should be. I would appreciate any input regarding the smoking and fuel consumption.
Thanks

I get about 380 kilos to the tank, mainly in urban driving, if I am lucky
. So you seem to be getting about par for the course. I have added a Racechip, which has significantly improved highway consumption, but in everyday stop start driving, actually made the drinking habit marginally worse
. Ditto the smoking. So chipping does not seem like the answer, as the base software
Mitsu uses on the autos appears to be a bit of a miss or miss affair. That's just a laymans opinion after about three "updates" and several "injector re-learns" (stupid injectors
) later.
Another thing to look at....oil. Agents will use the cheapest stuff they can get away with which falls within the manufacturers specs. My local friendly agents
uses castrol diesel 15w-40. My vehicle at least, hates it. It was noticeably louder / rougher throughout the rev range, and particularly so on start up, after its 1st service
.It was heavier on juice as well, although this could be because they may have tampered with the ecu again. I could not find delo 400 on short notice ( the car was in Durban for a family wedding with the wife using it as a beast of burden), but I drained filter and sump and filled her with Shell hx5, which still quietened and smoothed things down considerably. Yep, it is still under service plan, but if the engine doesn't like the stuff they poured into it, it doesn't like it, and I was going to get rid of it. I informed them that I swapped out the oil with hx5 of a slightly higher spec...they did not seem to care.

I have tracked by fuel consumption with my 2.5. I stay 3 km from the office, drop my daughter at school and have about 5 traffic signals on the way. So it is really short and bad traffic, with the vehicle hardly warming up. On these short runs I get 12,5l/100 km. Travelling into Cape Town CBD (about 25km there) the consumption drops to about 8,5-9 l/100km. My average tank-to-tank is about 11,3l/100km. Considering the short distances and traffic it is not bad.
My wife's RAV4 1.8 gets about 10,2l/100km on the same route.
On the open road my previous 3.2 did however seem lighter but only marginally.
