Hi All
I have this nasty humming sound coming from the front right on my 2010 Gen4 Paj, I stay in Cape Town and when I drive the Vissershok road and descend this long winding hill I hear it when I go through rough bits.
What I wanted to know was if the wheel bearings could be replaced or if the whole wheel hub and bearing had to be replaced on these models?
The dealership quoted me R4500 for a replacement part and I would prefer replacing both front or even all 4 if I could.
My second question is would a worm shock also create this noise I am referring to?
Thank you in advance
Juan
Front wheel bearings come with complete hub from the dealers. Are you sure this is the cause sound though?
Sure it ain't something silly like a loose inner plastic splash guard under the fender touching the wheel on a downhill or something?

Thank you for your reply Cats
I will have to check if its the inner plastics.
I never thought of that to be honest.

I recently travelled quite a bit in the Western Cape and I had some really scary moments with a similar thing. An incredibly loud humming or buzzing sound from the front right. I was able to determine that it only happened when the wind was blowing more than just a couple of knots (it was PUMPING when these noises occurred). I think it was also when the wind was coming in more or less across the front of the bonnet was not able to limit it strictly. Also, it only happened if I was driving more than about 80 km/h in really strong winds - a bit faster if the wind was not so strong. As it stopped the moment I slowed down, I was not able to pin-point the exact source. Any ideas?
Just to add to that, I had no trouble driving back to GP through the Karroo and there were NO signs of any trouble/damage when I had the car serviced immediately on my return.
Fan blades? Or maybe part of the housing the fan is in?

wind can cause some funny noises and when resonating it can become weird. At about 100 the empty Fruntrunner roofrack scared the day lights out of me the first time. It sounded like somebody banging the roof with a fist (like banging a door when knocking does not work). Winding an elastic tie down round the front most strut stopped the noise. The question is where do you wind what?
Hi
I had a similar scare last year when returning from Port Nolloth. Every time there were undulations on the road there was a load humming noise coming from the left from wheel. On pulling to the side of the road to check on the problem I was relieved to find that the inner plastic liner in the wheel arch was hanging down and touching on the wheel when the suspension flexed. A few zip ties later the problem was rectified. Hope this helps.

Also check the window trim rubbers. I had a little piece (3 cm) that was loose and make a mad noise at random intervals.
