I thought I might wake members up a bit, it seems a bit quiet at the moment. Get those tools out !!!
Members might be interested to know that the service life of DOT3 brake fluid is only one year and DOT4 is two years. I wonder how many dealerships even know which DOT brake fluid they are using and how many of them actually replace it under the service plan. If I see how they "overlook" setting the valve clearances on 3.2's the I guess they might just let the brake fluid slide as well.
If you ever do do brakes make sure to lubricate the pins on the rear calipers (and check the sealing rubbers) as the pins tend to rust and seize in the caliper. This can result in a brake shudder and uneven wear on brake components.
The older type anti freeze that one mixed with water also has only a two year service life. Water quality has a detrimental effect on the antifreeze and poor water quality actually weakens the mix and renders it ineffective before the two year service life is up. Never use neat antifreeze. Never use distilled water.
Personally I only use the agents stuff as it is premixed.
