I have a similar problem in my 2005 3.8 pajero. It seems the 4wd system was previously hardly used. I can drive for 300 km in 2wd then suddenly the orange centre light starts flashing. If I stop and switch of the pajero and restart the problem is gone. I will check it out this weekend, but advice will be appreciated
I had a similar problem with the second pajero I just bought. Its a 2001 3.5 LWB. At first the 4h would not work so I replaced the two solenoids in the front, problem solved.Problem no2 centre diff lights flashing when I put it in 4hcl it would not disengage, but if I switched it off and started it up all was ok until I would try to engage it again. It took me ages to find the actual problem, even tried another ECU,being a auto electrician I thought I was beat, but when I found the problem I could have kicked myself, all it was,was one switch on top of the gearbox. It was not making contact inside all the time.
So the damn super-select flashing light issue nailed mo on Friday morning.
I was popping to the garage to fill up before going to Seweweekspoort, and the front lights started flashing on startup - never having showed signs of an issue before..
I can't see this as a mechanical sticky solenoid issue, so it's either electrical or the vacuum, but how does it suddenly stop working when the car has hardly been used for a month, except for the occasional school run?

That is a lot of times the case. Not "exercising" the 4x4 system enough sometimes leads to some sticky parts. Try and use it in 4x4 mode at least once a month and they usually give a lot less hassles as the parts all stay lubricated.

The Paj goes into 4x4 at least once a week, so it's not through lack of use. Just during November when I wasn't able to drive

Same issues!!!! and I am getting "gatvol"
2015 Pajero SWB used at least 2 times a week through all the setting in the gearbox, thus nothing like "sticky oil" or whatever. Had this issue as from February and when the vehicle only had 6 000km's on. Since last week it is a re-curing issue causing the gearbox to go into "limp mode" just the centre amber light flashing.
Surely there must be a short somewhere, and I do think this might be the switch on top of the gearbox. Once the vehicle is stopped, and re-started it seems to do fine for a while but then the lights starts flashing again, thus there go my plans for Easter, either I ride it till it breaks or have it repaired under guarantee as soon as possible.

Check the vacuum actuator on the front diff. Check the vacuum lines to and from it as well. Blow them out, they tend to perish or collect muck.Going 4x4 wrote:Same issues!!!! and I am getting "gatvol"

Hi all.
I just purchased a second hand 1999 Pajero 3.5 V6 Gen 2.5 LWB. I need some advise on the super select system. I bought the vehicle last year December and had to do some work on the engine. Once that was done I took the vehicle for a test drive and all in order. I pulled off the road on a gravel patch to test the 4x4 operation. I selected the lever from 2H to 4H and the front diff lights started flashing and then went off. I moved the lever from 4H to 2H and back to 4H with no lights coming on at all. I then removed the cluster to check the globes and the globes are working fine. I tested the 4x4 system and everything engages. The actuator on the front diff engages, it goes into 4Hlc and into 4Llc and the rear diff lock engages. One other thing is that the center diff lock lights keeps flashing, I suspect that the tires are the problem here. So in short, the mechanics are fine but the front diff lights refuse to light up.
Please help.
Kind Regards
