Pajero 1998 Rear Door Clicking Noise
Hi everyone,

I have a problem in my 1998 Pajero. Its rear door is making an annoying clicking noise when driving off road. I couldn't find the cause of this noise. It seems that everything is good and in place but I guess the noise is coming from the rear door itself or some part inside it.

Con anyone advise me?

The latch should be adjusted. If it can't adjust enough (due to wear), then Kurt has a nifty way to add more "beef" to the the latch. I'll see if I can draw his attention to this thread.

Many thanks Roelf,
I'll check the latch and see what I can do.
Re: Pajero 1998 Rear Door Clicking Noise
I have a 99 model that had the same issue, my passenger door latch hooked at a different point and swapping them out solved the problem.

Another handy thing is to remove the left hand back light and do the door adjustments as you can then see all the components clearly.
Re: Pajero 1998 Rear Door Clicking Noise
I think most cars with heavy wheels hanging off the rear door will need the latches pulled up occasionally. I kept an impact driver in my toolkit for exactly that job.

Hi guys, sorry for only replying now but I've had a few rough days. It is hard to diagnose the problem without actually seeing the car. The above posts basically explain what to do but feel free to ask me via pm.

Re: Pajero 1998 Rear Door Clicking Noise
Hi Shootest
I also had noises coming from my tail door(2000 model) and struggled a long time determining the source of it. Eventually I realized that the sound was caused by dust accumulating in the folds of the rear door rubber.I'm doing a lot of dirt road driving when on holiday. When I cleaned it thoroughly, the noise disappeared. While driving though the Kruger in Jan 2016 with my 2010 model it did the same. After cleaning it the noise was gone. Maybe you should look into it as well.Just make sure that you reach every fold of the rubber.

Re: Pajero 1998 Rear Door Clicking Noise
Hi guys,
I’ve adjusted the latch, cleaned up the rear door rubber and oiled the bolts. As a result, the clicking noise has been reduced. It appears to me that the main source of the noise is the spare wheel and its chrome and/or plastic cover. I think the rattle is coming from a contact between the two covers. Is there any solution?
