Stalling 3.2DiD

Hello everyone. All of a sudden my 2008 with 242,000km has started stalling once or twice in stop start traffic conditions or when driving into my garage up a slight incline. I took it to Mitsubishi Sandton this afternoon, they plugged in their computer and reset the steering wheel sensor because my battery was changed recently. The stall happened again as I got home. It happens when the engine is warm, my fuel tank is 3/4 fill and there is no surging or warning lights on the dash. I did however notice today that there is an intermittent rough idle. The car was serviced 2000km ago by Mitsubishi Sandton and all was fine for those km. anyone know how to do that idle reset procedure or can help me with a diagnosis? Thanks, Kurt

could be but its only 2000km old, it was changed at the last service. What also makes me think it's something else is that while driving there are no signs of surging or fuel starvation, other than the random rough idle. Will swing by the agents again today.

Swing by the agents and see if they don't have something similar, but newer and much more sexy

Hi Kurt,
My Pajero (2007 Gen 4 with 160'000) did exactly the same. On an incline you could hear that the idle was rough, almost uneven.. And then it slowly got worse.. When you start the car and the tank was close to empty, or between the 1/4 and empty mark, the Pajero sometimes struggle to start and idle. (This behavior was not there when the tank is full). In the end I took the car to Mitspro. They removed the diesel tank and got it chemically cleaned, commenting that it was really filthy. The colour of the fuel coming out was not clear at all with visible particles present. They also cleaned the filter (pickup in the tank) that was almost completely clogged. This resolved the problem completely.

Okay so today it stalled while idling, not just when coming to a stop. The idling jumps up and down, or rather down and up and sometimes it stalls, sometimes not. Mostly at operating temp.

Hi Kurt,

I can't remember the exact cost but would guess about R1'500. This includes taking out the tank (and reassemble) and getting the tank chemically cleaned. I also had to dump all the diesel that was in the tank which was luckily not much.
