LSD Diff not working at all
Hi guys
I have purchased a 98 7 seater 3.5 v6 Pajero and I have found out the hard way that my LSD (limited slip diff) is not working at all. If I put it in a cross axle the wheel with the least resistance just spins. Has anyone else perhaps had this problem? I have bought lsd oil for it. I would like to find out the best way to flush out the old oil and see if it works after doing the oil change.
Does anyone know how quick the lsd needs to work?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Re: LSD Diff not working at all
Limited slip diff WILL spin the wheel with the least resistance. This is normal. It will only put a LIMITED amount of power on the other wheel for a LIMITED amount of time before it goes all to the wheel with least resistance. Hence the name.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your LSD but changing and flushing the oil and replacing with correct new oil can't do any harm.

I suggest you learn your vehicles capabilities and also the difference results a different line through an obstacle can make. Also experiment with pulling up the handbrake slightly in cross axcle situations with your LSD. You will soon realise that you can more often than not conquer an obstacle once you understand and know your vehicle's capabilities better. Of course a fully locked diff will outperform a LSD in cross axcle situations, but given the right line a LSD will get pretty far.

chock front wheels properly. Jack up both rear wheels. Turn one wheel by hand, the other wheel should turn in the same direction.

I think by their very design, the clutch will wear and slip more easily over time, I have the same issue with my Mk 1.

There will be a breakaway torque figure for these LSD, but I don't have this figure nor the test procedure. Being spring loaded they are likely adjustable.
