Bought Pajero, what service checks?
Hi,

I decided to buy the swb 3.2 that I sought advice on - thanks everyone (esp Mr2-Blue) for your assistance with this.

Mitsubishi are going to service the car before sending it to Cape Town so I thought I'd ask them to check a few key things while they're at it. It's a 1 owner car with a FSH from Mitsu, but it has 165k kms on the clock. Based on forum research I've asked them to check the following:

Diesel pump
Injectors
Timing chain guide / timing chain tensioner
Timing chain condition

With the above, should I ask them to do anything specific with these items, or just ask them to check them?

Should I add anything else to the list?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cheers,
David

Re: Bought Pajero, what service checks?
Hi David,

The diesel pump/injector work would have to be done by a specialist (Alan Black?). I would insist on seeing the report from them.

The 165000 km service is not a minor service. You can find the maintenance schedule for the DiD Pajero Gen 3 HERE (the file you want is THIS ONE). Make sure that they carry out the service according to the schedule. I would pay particular attention to the following:
* The air cleaner element must be replaced and not just checked
* The brake discs must be replaced if there is any shudder
* The brake pads must be replaced if they are worn out of spec
* The park brake shoes must be replaced if they are out of spec
* The pollen filter must be replaced (it is around R500)

Also make it clear that everything should work. Things like electric aerials, CD shuttles and the like can cost a lot to fix later.

David, what transpired with your compression re-test?

Re: Bought Pajero, what service checks?
Thanks Gerrit,

I had long conversations with the diesel shop (who ran the test) and the dealer, who both insisted that the correct test was completed and the results were fine for the age of motor. I'm going to have a test done in Cape Town when it arrives - under the conditions you specified - and double-check all is ok - if not, I'll ship it back!

I'll speak to the service manager tomorrow re Alan Black and the pump / injectors.

Thanks also for the service schedule.

Pleasure - which price did you finally agree with the Mitsu-Dealer ?
Re: Bought Pajero, what service checks?
I got them down to R159, 900 - it's still a slight premium, but I think there's value in the fact that it's a Mitsu dealer, 1 owner etc.

Probably a bit too much heart and not enough head in the decision, but it's always difficult when dealiing with Pajeros to get the balance, right? :D

Not bad, 20.000 bucks down...but seems to be still an emotional decision  ...

I'm not so passionate, we just wanted to have a real 4x4 for the time down here, it could have been any LC, Pajero,...but no Landrover ;) .

When we are back in Germany - we'll have 2 "platcars" again - they only need to have enough power    ....checking the market for the BMW X1's currently (3 liters diesel engine)....
