Rattle Solved
Hi solved a really annoying intermittent rattle coming from the rear of the car.

By luck I found it came from the top rear brake light lens cover (was going to sit in the boot while wife drove me round to find it). Fix was easy - some adhesive foam to make lens fit snug - happy camper, how I hate rattles.

Re: Rattle Solved
Here are a couple more rattles that might be plaguing other Gen 4 owners...

Mine had the "dash fix" - highly recommended, but these two were still rattling around.

The diesel filter holder vibrates against the fire wall, and there is a little black box, behind the cubby hole that has a big white wire connector plugged into it. This connector vibrates in the box and easily secured, especially whilst undergoing the dash fix. A cable tie wrapped around the box and white connector solved the problem.

Re: Rattle Solved
That black box loves to rattle.I have found often that its the harness going into the box that rattles and not the box in the casing so i just cable tie the harness tightly onto the box...

Roelf, you went a bit far to get rid of your rattles :D
Re: Rattle Solved
I have done a dash fix myself with cable ties and it was mostly quiet. But after driving the horrific corrugated roads of the Kaokoland, it feels like I want to set the car alight. Or strip all plastic from the inside.

In my opinion the spare tyre cover is a bad design. Once those plastic clips perish, there seems to be no way to hold the individual plastic layers tightly together.

Then, the worst rattle, which sounds like it comes from the dash, are those air vent adjusters! Has anyone managed to fix these? Obviously you cant glue them as they still need to be adjustable.

Maybe the roads are just very bad here, but I have lost a bit of faith in the ruggedness of the Pajero.

I know your pain. I think some are worse than others. Mine got the better of me, in spite of John and Kurt's dedicated efforts to solve the problem.

Re: Rattle Solved
The airvent adjusters are an issue in some. Not sure why there would be more play in some than others..often i find having then either completely up or completely down makes then quiet.
Secondly,if you dont have the brackets in place you will still get a larger amount of dash movement which just amplifies any rattles that might occur in the dash.
As for the rear,i have found an awsesome rubber lining that fits that rear plastic area ansd it makes a huge difference to any sounds coming from the back door. Also the plastic side paneling in the boot sits very close to the internal metal body and often on bad roads the plastic knocks slightly against the metal and it makes horrific sounds.
The other thing that rattles a lot,and actaully sounds like tools clanging is that cover over the 3rd row seats.(if you driving without luggage).
In the end these cars are built on a monocoque chassis and there will be more sounds you will hear than ladder frame chassis.I can tell you this though, the paj is by far more sure footed on bad roads than most ladder frame SUVs out there. So we sort of give a little to get a little.
Re: Rattle Solved
I suppose. But rattles always give that impression that things are falling apart.
