knocking under footwell
Hi everyone.
I am hoping someone out there can help me with this. I have recently bought a 2010 SWB DiD and am loving my new car! There is only one problem.
At low speed, < 15 km/h, there is a thud/knock under my foot well. If the car is hot and we are in heavy traffic, the thud becomes audible. If the car is cold the thud is less audible and more of a feeling under my foot, and seems to be worse when I'm on an incline. It happens when I am changing state between stopping and starting. In other words, a second or so after a stop, the thud sounds and then as I pull off it sounds again. It happens in both drive and reverse. It doesn't do this when I slow or accelerate at higher speeds.
I found a forum from UK (I think), where someone described the exact same thing. A responder said it was the hydraulic brake accumulator. When I mentioned this to my mechanic, he said no way. The HBA was an issue on Gen 3s and it definitely isn't it, but I'm not convinced because the Gen 3 issue was a totally different sound. Has anyone else had a similar issue, or at least have an idea what it might be? In true Murphy fashion, I cannot get it to happen with my mechanic in the car. It's driving me nuts and really detracting from my experience (not to mention that not knowing what it is might mean a huge repair coming my way). Any suggestions would be welcome.

This is being well debated on the Community forum, I hope you get sorted.

Re: knocking under footwell
Hi, I had a similar problem with a thud sound and felt it under my feet if braking or pulling away. Turned out to be the petrol tank nuts that came loose or wasn't tightened properly. Maybe if you are lucky the solution is as simple as that.

Re: knocking under footwell
Hi
I experienced the same symptoms with my 2009 SWB. Turns out its the diesel sloshing around in the fuel tank. The fuel tank stretches all the way from the back, to just under the front footwell. I found this to be more noticable when the fuel tank was full and almost not noticable at all when nearing empty.
Re: knocking under footwell
I checked starysilver's car for her and confirmed it was the diesel in the tank. She is very relieved.

Re: knocking under footwell
I wonder If this is the same problem on my car. Exact same sound... Only thing is I can feel mine on the steering wheel. And as I've said before I have replaced the upper control arm bushes already.
