Thanks Bernard, I feel somehow vindicated by your post. Here I was thinking it is only me.
I am going to do some testing of other shocks as proposed in other posts ( Davidvan ,I will mail you shortly, Tnks for mailadres).
I am wondering though if this is not a coil issue, as the rebound is just too sharp. I have always liked a soft spring with a decent shock, has worked in other rigs I have owned , but it was somehow easier to get it right.

My thinking is one needs a longer (not just taller) coilspring .Perhaps a slightly bigger diameter over the whole distance from top to bottom and which tapers to the correct diameter at the ends to fit the struts and cups. Or it can be same diameter , but with one extra turn to gain more height, instead of having the same amount of turns with wider spacing.

I have seen other posts where local spring manufacturers' efforts were not so good. Were those for modifying existing coils or the manufacture of new ones?
Has anyone had coils manufactured by a local springworks which actually works?

Glad you are getting somewhere with your issue.

Although there are now 2 potential cases, I can assure you that your cases are not the norm.

As I said, give the guys at Mikem a call to discuss your requirements. I chatted to them when I installed my spacers (specifically did not want the ride to change, as with the after market suspensions). At that stage they seemed willing to do some customisation of the coils they make.

Hi all, I also have ride quality issues with my 2001 Gen3 lwb DiD,bought it 2y ago with old man emu shocks, incredibly hard ride !! no one seems to be able to give me a sensible remedy,I do not have the resources to just fit parts and hope for the best , if I find a remedy I will let you know !

I had two rear coils made at Mikem a few years ago. My Pajero was the first one they worked on back then. Since then they may have worked on a few others as well, so they may have more experience, but they were happy to customise the spec.

I bought by gen4 3.2LWB (2007) in 2012. It had seen a hard life with very patchy services. I took a gamble as the kms were under 90ks. The drive was very twitchy so i replaced the shocks (Munroes) which made a vast improvement. However the Paj was still very hard. Several people told me the springs do not/cannot fail with such low kms. Long story short it now has 165ks on. I have used it very extensively off road and simply got used to the hard ride. Passengers all commented... Having springs checked is not really an option so I ended up thinking about selling the car. I got trade prices and looked at other makes but like Pajs so also took a newer one for a test drive. While the ride was firm it does not shake your teeth like mine did. Shocks/springs were discussed but no definitive answer was found. I took the plunge and put on OME which lifted the car but also changed the ride significantly. It is a bit less direct but much softer. I wish I did this years ago. From what I read it might have been better in terms of ride comfort to replace both shocks and springs with OEM parts BUT that was a bit more expensive. The extra height will certainly come in handy which the original springs do not provide. Note to others you MUST have alignment redone as it changes dramatically.

The Pajero suspension is no longer pathetic(as per string) and I now intend keeping the car for another 100k. Will also have the dashfix done (thank you forum!!)
