Running a proper fridge/freezer combination at the rear
Guys,
My 2015 SWB has got a power outlet at the rear which runs 12v/120 w. Will it be advisable to run a Engel 40 L fridge from that point whilst driving, obviously whilst stationary it would drain the battery, but whilst on the move my feeling is it should be okay.
Any comment?

Re: Running a proper fridge/freezer combination at the rear
I have run a freezer from there. However I thought my freezer had packed up as everything started defrosting. Then I worked out that because we were quite packed the plug was pressed to one side by some other stuff and had disconnected the freezer. I since ran a dedicated fused heavy duty wire from the battery, plus I used a Brad Harrison plug which is not hassled by anything pressing around it.

i e short term ok but long term you might be better off with a decent fused dedicated wire directly from the battery. That way when camped you also do not need to leave your ignition on. Just turn the freezer setting up to 0 deg C to avoid draining the battery but still keep everything frozen. Turn it back down once you started up in the morning. Eventually you can go double battery system then its plug it in and leave it!

Thanks guys,
I do agree that running cables direct from the battery via a Brad Harrison plug will no doubt be a more permanent solution but where in the "heck" do I get those wires through the firewall?

I took mine from the battery enclosed it in plastic sleeving as an extra precaution and routed it underneath the car to the back. That way if you ever have a trailer then you already have power at the rear to charge the trailer battery. You can take the wire through the rear floor. On the shorty you will find two rubber plugs under the lower storage unit.

My cable runs thought the wiring harness grommet in the firewall at front passengers feet (just stabbed a hole in the rubber and then Sika-flexed it closed). Then under the plastic cover strip on the door sill, front and back left doors, then under rear carpet under rear seats to the left to right and then into the wheel arch plastic moulding on right.

For my 40 l normal cig plug works just fine - amps are low

I liked the idea of no bits under the car to snag.

Installed a fuse front and back
