Hi,

My problem turned out to be the solenoids as pointed out by someone previously. Mechanics working in my engine bay broke off one of the nipples which i guess resulted in loss of pressure in the 4x4 system and the center diff light came on every 20 min or so. It reset itself when i restarted the car. As i was in the bush at the time i used Pratley steel to re-join the nipple and it worked fine, and is still like that as i have not got around to replacing it yet.

Hi all

Logic does not seem to work here.
With the orange light flashing in 2WD to prove the problem I swapped the vacuum solenoids around.
Now the orange light only flashed in 4WD.
This proved to me that the vacuum solenoids are faulty. "logic"

I replaced the solenoids with brand new ones "quoted R2000 at agents and R214 form overseas 3 months later"
Now no orange lights flash anymore, just the 2 front lights flash green all the time.
If I put it in 4HL or 4LL then the orange light center remains orange while front green flash.

I now observed on the front actuator vacuum pipe for 4wd there is no vacuum when in 4wd.
So in 2wd the vacuum pipe pulling actuator in has vacuum and in 4wd no vacuum on both pipes.

Can anyone tell me what operates the center diff lock ?
Is it the same vacuum as the 4wd front actuator ?

My ex Jap 3.5 V6 GDI used to have the same issue and apparently cured itself. I switched on the ignition(not engine) and shifted into neutral. I then shifted the 4WD selector from 2WD to 4H and 4L and back. You should hear the the solenoid actuating. After several cycles, I started the vehicle and the problem has not returned since. It seems the solenoid sometimes gets stuck due to limited use and will misbehave when called to action. Regular shifting will keep solenoid lubricated.
