Hi Gents
What would the symptoms of a blocked catalytic converter be? Not that I'm having problems, but was wondering if it would be a good idea to remove mine as the Paj is coming close to 200Kkm.
Thanks in advance!

Hi
Im on 260000 now and am thinking along the same lines.
From what I've read, they don't just block overnight, but its a gradual process of them blocking. Indications are that the vehicle has less power and just needs more revs to perform.
Steve's auto-clinic does these removals and claims Biiiiig success stories (that make me scared)
Mitsubishi dealer does not recommend it, but does not say its bad either
I have a chappie right next to my office who can do it too. I have been tempted, but at the same time a bit hesitant. My Paj has been going well for 260000 odd Km and I'm not sure I wanna fix what aint broke.....

Hi
I cut my CAT out about 8 months ago, it runs happier, smoother, quicker rev response. Overall, why wait? It's just creating back pressure on the turbo which will result in a costly failure. I drive the GEN3, 2006 LWB. And it didn't have the Lambda/ O2 sensor, so no ECU changes. Just cut out (thanks Powerflo in Tokai) and move on with my life....then I cut out the EGR system, much happier since I did that too...check your model, find out if there's a lambda/ other before you go gung-ho to make sure you understand what you may be getting into with that.

Hi guys
Following advice on this forum i removed the egr and blanked off the two holes with 5mm stainless plates.
Then took pajero to my mate Brad at Powerflow Port Shepstone to remove catalytic converter...
The Pajero is much much happier revs and just wants to run .....
2003 3.2 Did, 180000km on the clock.
Using just over 10 l/100 km short town runs

I just pulled the cat box out of my 2014 3.5l V6 and had the engine chipped to change the fuel mapping. I also fitted a K&N air filter. She went from being a very dull ride to fairly peppy, kinda what I'd be expecting from an engine that size. Money well spent, I thought.
Hi I had this problem I'm my Toyota Nadia station wagon D4 engine with catastrophic result. The car does not have a temp guage which led to the problem as well. As I was driving on the open road the car started to make a whistling sound from the front exhaust manifold and started to loose a lot of power same feeling as a blocked fuel filter esp going up the hills. I was living in Zimbabwe at the time where temperatures are fairly high. As I was climbing up a long hill the overheating light started to flash. By then it was too late.... the cylinder head gasket was severly blown. So my advice is get it out as soon as possible.

Good morning,
I've taken out my 2008 Pajero's catalytic converter, it was the best decision ever, the engine sound a lot more happier without it. With more than 220 000km on the clock, maybe it was blocked. The local guys just remove the inner stuff of the converter, no modifications to the exhaust or anything.
Hope this helps.

Hi folks
I took my 2007 Gen 4 for Software Mapping, very similar to a Chip being installed, about 2 years ago.
In the same time the Cat Converter had also been removed.
The performance is pretty good and even my fuel consumption improved quite significantly.
Now, I realize that 2 mods had been done at the same time! So, which one contributed the most??
I cannot tell.
What you will definitely see is a little more blackish smoke, especially when you really push hard during dune driving or towing a caravan in a serious hill climb.
My guestimate is that the blackish smoke can be related to the Cat Converter being removed.
On the fuel consumption matter, here is some figures on our return this weekend from Namibia(just to back my statement above):
- Rear Seats folded flat - 18 Springbok in the back plus luggage, camping Fridge etc
- Roof rack on - Camping equipment loaded, Tent, 4 Ammo boxes, chairs, table, gas bottle etc
- 400 Km Gravel Road to Ariamsvlei
- 980 Km Tar road to Centurion
Fuel Consumption: 10.8L/100km
By the way: Odo is now almost on 250 000Km and I think I am going to drive "Old Faithfull" for 10 more years.
Happy 4 x 4ing!
Cheers.
