Rear diff lock, locking by itself
Hello Pajero experts,

I have a small (big?) problem with my rear diff. Its a highly modified Gen3, 3.2 DiD automatic, 2006 model. The rear differential is standard with electrical pump to operate the locking pin in the rear diff.

Lately I have had problem that after some long driving and then stopping, it seems like the diff-lock then somehow engages itself, without having operated anything on the 4WD super select system. This has happened both when in 4H and 2H mode.

Usually I have been able to get it disengaged by turning rear diff lock switch off/on a few times (first switching to 4HLC or 4LLC).

Not 100% sure but might be related to difference in altitude, e.g. after a descent.

So question, if e.g. the air-vent valve on the airpump itself is blocked, can it be built enough pressure due to altitude change / temperature change / whatever, so that the locking pin engages? Read somewhere it takes 4 psi to engage the pin, but it might also engage on less pressure?

Anyone had similar problem?

Have not taken pump off yet to inspect...

Thanx for any tips :)

Gard

Don't know whether you got sorted, but I would check the vents. Following the piping from the pump to the diff. Also check the diff breather for blockage.
