Hi. I have a 3.2 did auto gen3 . I have used the vehicle for some months buying used at 130k km. For the first time I decided to try low range and no luck. I tried engaging fro P and N but nothing.
I recall somewhere that if not used for long periods things may stick somewhere. Any advise on possible cause would be appreciated. Otherwise my only choice is the agents in Durban. Anyone know of other pajero experts in the Durban south coast areas.
Thank you.
The gearbox MUST be in N before trying to engage LR.
Does the little light on the dash flash on and off, but it refuses to engage?
Park it on a slope and allow the car to slowly roll forward (in N) while trying to engage LR. You can also try turning the steering a little from side to side. The idea is to get slight movement with speed difference between the front and rear propshafts to allow LR to "mesh".
I hope you come right.

Thanks for reply Roelf. Testing again on hill as suggested all the lights stop flashing even the 4L light next to the whee! !right is working okay. After speaking to another Pajero owner I think I have concluded that everything is working fine. The reason I thought it wasn't was there didn't appear to be a large difference between H and L. I was suspecting a huge difference high revving hard!y moving. I need to check on off road conditions sometime. Thanks.
The Pajero only has a 1.9 reduction in low range but the gearbox will also change up to 3rd or 4th fairly quickly and its smooth so you hardly notice.
lock it in 1 and you will see...

If the 4L light is solid, then your Pajero is in low range.
I'm glad all is fine with your car.
Enjoy!
